He was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Saltville to Jim and Cansadie Sheppard Lester. He was a retired auto mechanic, and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cansadie O. Sheppard of Saltville and son, James Edward Lester. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Norma Jane Lester; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and J.R. Moore of Jonesborough, Tenn., Linda Smith of Bluff City, Tenn., Regina and John Thrift of Kingsport, Tenn., and Crystal and Eric Poore of Bristol; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Sadie Pickle, Laura Cline, Irene Shelton and Annie Repass, all of Saltville; and brother, Edward Sheppard of Saltville. Funeral services were held Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2005, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Buddy Chapman officiated the ceremony. Burial was held Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 2005 in the Eastern Heights Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.weaverfuneralhome.net. The family received friends Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2005, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn. was in charge of arrangements. o
