She was born in Smyth County to the late Washington Jacob Lee Shupe and Mary Inez Blevins Shupe. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Martin; three brothers, Ernest Shupe, David Shupe and Frank Shupe; and one sister, Dorothy Hicks. She was a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church for many years. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Janie Martin and Charles Everette Martin, all of Chilhowie; five daughters and sons-in-law, Beulah and George Martin, Louise Martin and Shirley Owens, all of Chilhowie, Jeanette and Willard Hamill of Roanoke, and Joan and Paul St. John of Beckley, W.Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Francis Shupe of Chilhowie; two sisters, Edith Blankenbeckler of Chilhowie and Evelyn Myers of Clifton Forge; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Shupe and Mary Sheets, both of Chilhowie; 11 grandchildren, Trish, Laura, Becky, Julie, Anna, Althea, John D., Leigh Ellen, Sarah, John H. and Bill; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Lambert and the Rev. Lloyd Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Grosses Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jackie Blevins, 250 Flatwoods Acres Rd., Chilhowie, Va. 24319.
