Mason MARION -- William S. "Bill" Mason, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport after a brief illness. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Tank Battalion. Mr. Mason was motor route carrier for the Roanoke Times for 30 years and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Sr. and Ellanora Johnson Mason. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Catron Mason of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Todd Oakes of Marion; one grandson, James Michael Oakes of Marion; one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Oakes of Marion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Jeff Thomas and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Mason Family.
