"Dude" Phibbs Sr., 66, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steele in Sparrows Point, Md., and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Samuel C. Jr. and Connie T. Phibbs of Tannersville; five brothers, Jim Phibbs and Milton Phibbs, both of Glade Spring, Marvin Phibbs of Clarksville, Tenn., Lacy Phibbs of Newport News and Herbert Phibbs of Yorktown; one sister, Vienna Meek of Marion; and two grandchildren, Brandon Phibbs and Steven Phibbs. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, March 4, 2005, in Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie. The Rev. David Mumpower and the Rev. Dennis Banks officiated the ceremony. Interment followed in Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring. The family received friends Thursday evening, March 3, 2005, in the Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie. Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.
