She was born in Chilhowie, June 23, 1913, to the late William (Bill) and Magalene Floyd Plummer. She was the widow of the late Cecil W. Preston. She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Henry and Floyd Plummer; five sisters, Virginia Greene, Lucy Tucker, Mary A. Lomans, Edith Dickerson and Gertrude Russell; and two grandsons, Benjamin Burrell and Cecil Douglas Preston. She was a devoted and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Chilhowie where she served as mother of the church and held various offices in several auxiliaries of the church. She served as pianist and organist until her death. Survivors include a son, Charles David Preston Sr. of Chilhowie; three daughters, Imogene P. Burrell of Lebanon, Lillian P. Thompson of Chilhowie and Kitty M. Sherwood of Marion; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws; and her church family and friends. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at 1 p.m. with the Dr. Willis A. Johnson officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friend from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Williams Funeral Home. Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.
