Smith MARION -- Richard Hilton "Smitty" Smith, 89, of 104 Walton St., died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born in Greensboro, N.C., and was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Terressa Linkous Ross. He worked at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas as a supervisor over the maintenance and engineering department. He had worked at Mojudd in Greensboro and at the Brunswick Corporation. Mr. Smith attended the Church of the Nazarene in Marion for many years. Survivors include beloved wife, Thelma Keyes Linkous Smith; one stepdaughter, Connie Linkous, Marion; one stepson, Ronnie Linkous and wife Regina, Bedford, Texas; six step-grandchildren, Ralph Testerman, Richmond, Kevin Testerman, Marion, William David Ross, Meadowview, Melissa Ross Henderson, Bristol, Heather Linkous, San Francisco and Jennifer Linkous, Los Angeles; two step- great-grandchildren; and several other family members and many, many friends also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Pastor Judd Compton officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Smyth County Community Hospital for their care and prayers and also our faithful Pastor Judd Compton, Dr. Sam Vernon and many friends who helped us through Smitty's illness. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the Smith family.
