Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean conflict and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Smith; and one sister, Doris Ann Price. Survivors: his wife of 51 years, Billie Collins Smith, Saltville; three daughters, Deborah S. Whitehead, Delores S. Frye and Mitzi S. Poe and husband Steve, all of Saltville; one son and daughter-in-law, David and JoElla Smith, Saltville; his mother, Frances Smith Davidson, Saltville; one brother, Jerry W. Smith, Saltville; seven grandchildren, Erik, Melissa, Jonathan, Kayla, Dakota, Julia and Keelyn; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Devin, Brianna and Kelsey; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Patsy Kestner, Allen Cardwell, Tommy Frye, Buck and Bill Jones and many others. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Henderson's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Surber and Rev. Benny Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Saltville V.F.W. Post 7328. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Henderson's Funeral Home. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home will be serving the Smith family.
