He was born in the Nebo community of Smyth County, a son of the late Burlie W. Sr. and Josephine Isabelle Hubble Smith. Survivors include two sisters and a brother-in-law, Geneva and Ray Gentry of Hampton, and Betty Jo Yates of Indian Trial, N.C.; four brothers and sisters-in- law, Harry L. and Patsy Smith of Ridgeway, Beattie J. and Mary Smith of Anchorage, Alaska, James D. and Mary Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Burlie W. Jr. and Lauretta Smith of Rural Retreat; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Retreat, with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment will be in the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Nebo. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at his former residence at any time. Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat is in charge of arrangements. o
