Mr. Songer was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Talladega, Ala., to the late Burl and Mary Frances Hicks Songer. He was an avid stamp collector and a skilled wood worker and re-finisher. In addition to his parents, Mr. Songer was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy L. Jones Songer; and several siblings and family. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and J.D. Barron, Phenix City, Ala., Joyce and Lee Collins, Rossville, Ga., and Jackie and Bobby Dunn, Chilhowie; seven grandchildren, Eric and Michael Marrett, Bobby and Wayne Collins and Jeff, Jason and Jeremy Dunn; several great-grandchildren; and by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Bradley-Finney Funeral Chapel of Chilhowie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chilhowie First Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 198, Chilhowie, VA 24319. Bradley-Finney Funeral Chapel of Chilhowie is serving the family of Mr. Songer.
