She was born in Smyth County on April 10, 1943, to the late Rev. Bill and Ruby Tuell. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Lou Sheets. She retired from Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute personnel department after 30 years of service. She also worked for the Smyth County Board of Supervisors and was a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Roger K. Sturgill; four sons and daughters-in- law, Joe "Jody" and Angie Dixon (currently serving in Iraq) and Doug Dixon, all of Chilhowie, Richard Kent "Rick" and Kim Sturgill and Steven Curtis and Cheria Sturgill, all of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Ashley Layne Dixon; five grandsons, Roby Kent Sturgill, Steven Grey Sturgill, Jacob Hampton Sturgill, Charles Scott Sturgill and Erik Justin Cline; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and James Joines of Chilhowie; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William "Doug" and Debbie Tuell and Richard "Dick" and Phyllis Tuell, all of Chilhowie; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Lloyd Sheets and Jimmy D. Sturgill, both of Chilhowie; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan.6, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Lambert, Charles Blevins and Scott Spence officiating. Interment will follow at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Outreach Foundation, 206 Abingdon Place, Abingdon, Va. 24211. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Chilhowie. Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie is in charge of arrangements.
