Possession & Seisin of the Land & premises within mentioned ^ To hold to the said Edmund Jenkins his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the True intent and meaning of the within written Deed. Kello Edmund Jenkins / Thos: Williamson John Boykin At a Court held for the County of Southampton on Thursday the ninth Day of April 1752 This Indenture and Memorandum were proved by the Oaths of Richard Kello and Thomas Williamson two of the Witnesses thereto and At a Court held for the said County on Thursday the 13th. of August 1752 The said Indenture and Memorandum were further proved by the Oath of John Boykin the other witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Recorded. Kello ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ [tiny check mark in margin] Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 1 (1749-53), pp. 297-99; 363-65 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 1 Additional information: The disparity in the "Consideration" for this tract - £105 to Boykin, compared with £20 to Jenkins - plus the short 6-week duration of Jenkins' ownership strongly suggest that something beyond the mere conveyance is happening, but the indentures do not explain the underlying circumstances. The reference apparently is not to modern Terrapin Swamp - the northernmost in the county - but rather, to Hickaneck Swamp - the next to the south.
