All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Edward BRITT & wife Sarah to John BOYKIN, deed of bargain & sale, 190 acres, 6 Aug 1759 (9 Aug 1759) [margin note] Britt to Boykin This Indenture made the Sixth day of August 1759 in the year of our lord one thousand seven Hundred fifty nine Between Edward Britt of the County of Southampton of the one part & John Boykin of the said County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Edw'd Britt for & in Consideration of the sum of Two hundred Pounds Curr't money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said John Boykin at or Before the Sealing & delivering of these presents, Receipt Whereof the said Edw'd Britt doth hereby acknowledge & himself therewith to be fully Satisfied & paid & thereof Clearly Acquit & Discharge the said John Boykin his heirs Exe'tors & Am'ors forever by these presents Hath given granted bargained Sold E'feoffed & Confirmd & by these presents Doth give grant bargain Sell Enfeoff & Confirm unto the said John [page break] [p.] 286 Boykin his heirs & Assigns forever on[e] Certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing by Estimation One hundred & ninety Acres be the same more or Less Lying & being in the County aforesaid and Bounded as followeth (Viz) Beginning at a white Oak a Corner tree of the said Britts Line Thence along a line of Marked Trees nort[h] to a red Oak a Corner of Edw'd Allmans Line of Markt Trees to a pine a Corner of the said Boykins Land thence along a line of markt Trees to a white Oak a Corner tree of Simon Boykin's Land thence along a line of Markt Trees to three Trees Choped Inwards thence along a line of markt Trees to a red Oak, a Corner of Ralph Vickerses Land thence a long a line of Markt Trees to an Ash & pine in Eliz'th Evans's Line Thence Along a line of markt trees to a Red Oak a Corner of the said other land thence along a line of Markt [Trees] to the begining. with all houses Orchards grardens Fences Woods under Woods water[s] water Courses thereon Standing growing & being & with all profits Comodities advantages Emoluments & appurtenances whatsoever to the same be[l]onging or in any wise appertaining & also the Revertion & Revertions Remainder & Remainders thereof & of every part & parcel thereof To have & to hold the said Tract or parcel of land with all & Singular the appurtenances unto the said John Boykin in his heirs & assigns to the only use & behoof of him the said John Boykin his heirs & & assigns forever & the said Edward Britt for himself & his heirs the said granted Land wit its premises & theirs & every of theirs appurtenances unto the said John Boykin his heirs & assigns shall & will Warrent & forever Defend by these presents agains any person or persons whatsoever having or Lawfully Claiming any right title property or intrest in or to the same or any part or parcel thereof & the said Edward Britt for himself & his heirs doth grant consent & Agree to & with the said John Boykin his heirs & Assigns in manner & form following that is to say that the said Britt at the time of the sealing & delivery of these presents is & Stands Seiz'd of an indefeasible Estate in Fee simple of in & to the premises & that he hath good Right & Lawfull Authority to sell & Convey the same in manner & form aforesaid & that the same Shall for ever Remain to the said John Boykin his heirs & Assigns freely & Clearly Exonerated & Discharged of & from all & all manner of former Bargains sales Titles of Dower & all other Rights & Estates what soever in Witness whereof the sd. Britt } At a Court held for the County of Southampton 9th day August 1759 Simon Boykin } This indenture & the memorandum of Leviry of Seisin thereon Endorsed were Jesse Britt } acknowledged by the within named Edw'd Britt & ordered to be Recorded & Sarah the Wife of the said Edw'd personally apeared in Court & being first privily Examined as the Law directs Voluntarily relinquished her Right of Dower in the Estate Conveyed by the said Indenture Test R.
