All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Thomas WILLIAMSON to John BRITT, deed of bargain & sale, 175 acres, 12 Jan 1762 (12 Aug 1762) [margin note] Williamson to Britt This Indenture made this twelfth Day of January in the second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and Sixty two Between Thomas Williamson of the Parish of Nottoway in the County of Southampton of the one part and John Britt of the same Parish & County Planter of the other Part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Williamson for and in Consideration of the sum of forty seven Pounds current Money of Virginia to him in hand Paid by the sd. John Britt the Receipt whereof he doth hereby Acknowledge and thereof Acquit and Discharge the sd. John Britt Hath Granted Bargained and Sold Aliened Enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these Presents Doth Grant bargain Alien Enfeoff and Confirm unto the sd. John Britt and to his Heirs and Assigns forever all that Tract or Parcel of Land Situate lying and being on the North Side of Black Water Swamp in the Parish & Co'ty aforesaid Containing by Estimation one Hundred and seventy five Acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth Beginning at the Run of Blackwater Swamp at the mouth of the Spring Branch a line of John Messers and along the said Messers Line to a may Pole on the Head of the sd. Branch and from thence along the sd. to a Dogwood a corner Tree of the said Messers joining to Wm. Jones's Line and from thence along the sd. Jones's Line to a Pine a Corner Tree of the said Joneses Line and from thence [page break] [p.] 162 along the said Jones Line to a white Oak at the Head of a Branch and from thence along the sd. Branch to the Run of Black water swamp and from thence up the Run of Black water Swamp to the Beginning the same being a Tract or Parcel of Land bought by Thomas Williamson of John Crumpler Snr. being thereunto had may more fully and at large appear and all Houses Outhouses Edifices Buildings yards Gardens Orchards Woods Underwoods Trees Ways Waters Water courses Profits Commo =dities Hereditaments and Appurt's thereunto belonging or in any wise Appertaining and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders Rents Issues and Profits thereof and of every part and Parcel thereof and all the Estate Right Title Interest Property Claim and Demand whatsoever of him the sd. Thomas Williamson of in or every part thereof and all deeds evidences & writings touching or in any wise concerning the said to the same ^ Premises To have and to hold the sd. Tract or Parcel of Land and Premises with the Appurt's unto the sd. John Britt and to his Heirs and Assigns forever To the only proper use and behoof of the sd. John Britt his Heirs and Assigns forever and the said Thomas Wmson for himself his heirs exors and admrs doth covenant promises & agree to & with the said John Britt his heirs and assigns forever by these Presents in manner and form following that is to say that he the sd. Thos. WmSon at the time of the Ensealing and Delivery of these Presents Hath Good Right full Power and Lawful Authority to Sell and Convey all and Singular the said Tract or Parcel of Land and Premises with Appurt's herein before mentioned unto the sd. John Britt in Fee Simple and that the sd. Thos. WmSon seised of a good and indefesable Estate in Fee in the same at the time of executing this Conveyance and that the sd. John Britt his Heirs and Assigns shall and may at all Times forever hereafter Peaceable and Quietly have hold Use Occupy Possess and enjoy the sd. Premises with the Appurt's Free Clear and Discharged of and from the Title Claim and Demand of any Person or Persons and from all Dowers Intails Mortgages Debts Judgments and Executions and all other Incumbrances of what nature or kind soever and also that he the sd. Thos. Williamson and his Heirs the said Tract and Parcel of Land and Premises with the Appurt's unto the sd. John Britt his Heirs & Assigns ag'st all and every Person and Persons whatsoever Lawfully Claiming or to Claim the same shall and will warrant and forever Defend by these Presents In Witness whereof the said Thomas Williamson hath hereunto set his Hand and affixed his Seal the Day and year above written Thos. WmSon and by him delivered to the sd. John Britt to hold to him his Heirs and Assigns forever according to the True Intent and Meaning of the within written Indenture Thos. (Isle of Wight Co. DB1:389) Phillip RAYFORD [Sr.] sold it 23 Dec 1723 to John CROMPLER {CRUMPLER}. (Isle of Wight Co., VA, Great Book Vol. 2, pp. 638-39) John CRUMPLER was bequeathed 2 tracts in the will of his father, William CRUMPLER [Sr.], 1 Oct 1795 {pr'd 15 Jan 1798}. It is not clear from the records how Britain BRITT became the acting executor [the Order Books are missing].
