All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Benjamin PHILLIPS to John BAILEY, deed & memorandum dated & proved 8 Aug 1765 [margin notes] Phillips to Bailey This Indenture made this the eighth day of august in the Year of our lord christ one thousand seven hundred and sixty five Between Benj.a Phillips of the county of Surry of the one part and John Bailey of the county of Southampton of the other part Witnesseth that the said Benjamen Phillips for and in consideration of the sum of sixty two pounds ten shillings in hand paid by the said John Bailey at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the said Benjamen Phillips doth hereby acknowledge he the said Benjamen Phillips Hath granted bargained and sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents for himself his heirs and assigns do grant bargain and sell alien enffeoff and confirm unto the said John Bailey his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred and ninety five acres more or less lying and being in the county of Southampton (being part of a patent granted to John Drew bearing date the fifth of September 1723 and bounded as followeth, to wit Beginning at a red oak on the north side of the lightwood swamp thence by a line of marked trees to a poplar in the cabin branch thence down the said branch to the lightwood swamp thence up the said the swamp to the begining and the reversion and reversions remainder & remainders rents and services of the said premises also all the estate right title interest claim and demand of him the said Benjamen Phillips and his heirs of in and to the said land and every part thereof To have & to hold the said land and premises with the appurt's herein before mentioned unto the said John Bailey his heirs and assigns forever and the said Benjamen Phillips for himself his heirs and assigns from all and every other person or persons whatsoever claiming and demanding the said land and premises doth hereby warrent & forever defend unto the said John Bailey his heirs and assigns forever In Witness whereof the said Benjamen Phillips hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written Signed Sealed & Delivered Benj.a Phillips ¤LS¤ in presence of. PHILLIPS sold the land on the next court day, 8 Aug 1765, to the 3 witnesses- 295 acres, more or less, to John BAILEY, for £62.10. 0., 200 acres, more or less, to Moses BOOTH, for £35. 0. 0., & & 295 acres, more or less, to Robert BOOTH, for £62.10. 0.
