Rather, a deed for the 371-acre tract appears later in the volume [DB4:241-42] dated 28 Mar 1770, acknowledged 9 Jun 1769 & 8 Mar 1770; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db241.txt subsequent to the above deed for the 727-acre tract is to William GLOVER from Richard BAKER & Catherine/Katherine HAYNES, postdated 28 Mar 1770, acknowledged 9 Jun 1769; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db241.txt The acknowledgements as cited are noted in the court records (OB1768-72:156-57 & 252). In the prior deed [DB4:240-41] William GLOVER purchased the 727a. residue of the 1098-acre tract "Quinquan" from the executors of William HAYNES, 20 Feb 1770 (8 Mar 1770); file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db240.txt At the time, BAKER & HAYNES had an ongoing suit against GLOVER, finally dismissed at GLOVER's costs, 12 Jul 1770. (OB1768-72:300) William HARRISON & wife Ann of Isle of Wight Co. sold 185½ acres, a moiety (half) of this tract, to John LAWRENCE, 11 Oct 1770 (12 Oct 1770). [DB4:310-11]; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db310.txt William HARRISON of Surry Co. then conveyed the entire 371-acre tract to John LAWRENCE, 10 Aug 1787 (11 Oct 1787). [DB7:6-7]; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/07db006.txt HARRISON was paid £62.12.7 [or £62.4.7 - the deed & receipt disagree] for the first moiety, & £65 for the second, far less than the £185 that he & WHITE paid GLOVER.
