Baker & Catharine Haynes ex'ors &c of Wm. Haynes late of Isle of Wight county dec'd of the one part & Wm. Glover of the County of Southampton of the other part witnesseth that for & in consideration of the sum of one hundred & eighty five pounds ten shillings current money of Virginia by the said Wm. Glover in hand paid the receipt whereof they the said Richard Baker & Catharine Haynes do hereby acknowledge & thereof acquit & discharge the said William Glover his heirs ex'ors & adm'ors have granted bargained sold aliened released & confirmed & by these presents do grant bargain sell alien release & confirm unto the sd. Wm. Glover his heirs & assigns one certain tract or parcel of land situate [page break] [p.] 242 lying & being in the said county of Southampton on Black Water river containing three hundred & seventy one acres & bounded as followeth Beginning at a gum on the Miry branch thence South eighty one degrees east one hundred & fourteen Poles to a Pine thence south sixty degrees east sixty nine poles to a Pine thence south Seventy four degrees east twelve Poles to a small hickory thence North thirty two degrees west to a red oak thence along Margery Whitneys line to Black Water river thence down the meanders of the said river to the upper side of Closures Island thence along the upper side of the said Island to the mouth of the Miry branch & thence up the meanders of the said branch to the beginning & all houses outhouses woods ways waters profits commodities heredita [=]ments & appurtenances & the reversion & reversions remainder & remainders rents issues & profits thereof & also all the estate right title & interest of them the said Richard Baker & Catharine Haynes their heirs & assigns of in or to the said tract or parcel of land & every part & parcel thereof To have & to hold the said three hundred and seventy one acres of land & premises with the appurt's to the said William Glover his heirs & assigns forever & the Said Richard Baker [&] Catharine Haynes for themselves & their heirs do covenant promise & agree to & with the said William Glover that the said tract or parcel of land unto him the said William Glover & his heirs against them the said Richard Baker & Catharine Haynes & their heirs [&] all & every other person or persons whatsoever shall & will warrant & for ever defend by these presents And Lastly the said Richd. Baker & Catharine Haynes do further covenant promise & agree to & with the said William Glover that they the said Richard Baker & Catharine Haynes will make do & execute or cause to be made done & executed any further or other assurance or conveyance in the Law for the more effectual assuring or conveying the said land at the proper cost & charge of the said William Glover as he the said Wm. The acknowledgements as cited are noted in the court records (OB1768-72:156-57 & 252). At the time, BAKER & HAYNES had an ongoing suit against GLOVER, finally dismissed at GLOVER's costs, 12 Jul 1770.
