All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Charles LAWRENCE & wife Amey to John LAWRENCE, indenture dated 13 Jul 1770, acknowledged 12 Jul 1770 [margin notes] [p.] 285 Lawrance to Lawrance D.d to Major JLawrence March 1779 This Indenture made this Thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred & seventy Between Charles Lawrance and wife Amey of Southampton County And Colony of Virginia of the one part & John Lawrance of the Isle of Wight County & said province of the other part Witnesseth that the said Charles Lawrance for & in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds current Money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the s.d John Lawrance on the sealing & delivery of these presentss the Receipt whereof the s.d Charles Lawrance & wife doth hearby Acknowledge themselves satisfyed & paid & doth thereof A quit & discharge the s.d John Lawrance & have granted Bargained & sold and doth by these presents grant Bargain sell unto the said John Lawrance his heirs & assigns forever one certain Tract or parcel of Land lying & being in the county of Southampton on the south side of the main Black Water it being part of a pattern Granted unto John Lawrance the sixteenth day of December 1714 Bounded as followeth Begining in the Pattern line where George Laurance's New Line begins as bounds him and thence south 14° East along that new line to the Cattail Branch then along the said Branch to the Pattain line then along the said line Adistance to Joyn the said John Lawrances One Land and so along Lawrances Land to the Pattain line then along the Pattain line to the begining it is one hundred & forty Acres not layed of as lies Between the said John Lawrances land and new line of George Lawrances as was given the said Charles Lawrance by his uncle Jeremiah Lawrance the reversion & Reversions Remainder & Remainders To have and to hold the s.d Lands & premises with the appurtinances unto it belonging or in any wise Appurtaining unto the s.d John Lawrance his heirs & assigns forever & against him the s.d Charles Lawrance he his his heirs & assigns and all & every other person Or persons whatsoever to be Cleerly & freely Injoyed by the said John Lawrance & all his forever with out any Interruption Or Trouble of Him the said Charles Lawrance Or wife Amey Or any other person Or persons whatsoever I nwitness where of we have hereunto set our hands & seals this day and year Above written Signed sealed & Delivered in presents of us [page break] [p.] 286 his John Eley Jun.r Charles X Lawrance *LS* } mark William Glover } her } Amey X Lawrance *LS* Thomas Lankford Ju.r} mark ["Received" struck] At a court held for the County of Southampton the 12 day of July 1770 ___.__ This Indenture was acknowledged by the within nam'd Charles Lawrance & Amy his wife she being first privily examined as the Law directs & ordered to be recorded R.
