Lawrence ŻŻŻŻŻ March 18th. 1779 This Indenture made this eleventh day of Octr. in the tenth year of the reign of our sovereign lord George the third now King of great Britain &c &c in the year of our lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & seventy between Wm. Harrison & Wife An Harrison of the Parish of Newport & county of Isle of Wight of the one part & John Laurance of the foresd. county & parish of the other part witnesseth that the sd. Wm. [&] Ann his wife for & in consideration of the sum of sixty two pounds ["four" struck] twelve Shillings & seven pence current money money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the sd. John Lawrance the receipt whereof the sd. W.m [&] Ann his wife doth hereby acknowledge & thereof acquit & discharge the sd. John Laurance his heirs Executors & Admors by these presents hath bargained granted sold aliend enfeoffed & confirmed & by these presents doth bargain grant sell alien enfeoff & confirm unto the Said John Lawrance & to his heirs & assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying & being in the parish of Nottoway & county of Southampton Containing by estimation one hundred & eighty five & one half acres be the same more or less & bounded as followeth to wit Begining at a hikory Corner tree of Wm. Glovers thence down the sd. Glovers line south thireen degrees west through the goose pond to black water River & thence up the Said River to Deseaced Joshua Whitney line a corner Tree & thence along the sd. Whittneys line to a hikory a corner tree of John Laurances & then along the Said Lawrances line to the begining together with all houses outhouses edifices buildings yards gardens orchards trees Ways waters waters Courses profits commodites hereditaments & appurtenances to the sd. Plantation tract or parcel of land belonging or in any wise [page break] [p.] 311 appertaining to [the same &] the reversion & reversions remainder & Remainders rents issues & profits thereof & every part & parcel thereof & all the estate right & title interest property possession Claim & demand whatsoever of them the sd. Wm. [&] An his wife of in or to the same or any part or parcel thereof & all the deeds evidences & writing touching or in any ways Concerning the same To have & to hold the sd. plantation tract or parcel of Land & premises the appurte[=] nances unto the sd. John Laurence his heirs & assigns to the only use & behoof of him the sd. John Lawrance his heirs & assigns forever & the Wm. [&] An his Wife for themselves their heirs executors & admors doth covenat promise & grant to & with the sd. John Laurance his heirs & assigns by these presents that the sd. Wm. [& Ann] & their & assigns aforesd. the premises with the appurtenances unto the [sd] John Lawrance his heirs & assigns against all & every person & persons whatsoever Lawfully claiming or to claim the same by from or under him them or any of them or any other person or persons whatsoever Shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof we the sd. Note also, the deed gives the corrected price as £62.12.7, while receipt is for £62.4.7. William GLOVER purchased the 1098-acre tract "Quinquan" from the executors of William HAYNES, late of Isle of Wight Co. - 371a. in 1768 {not recorded}, sold to William HARRISON & George Thomas WHITE, 10 Aug 1768 (10 Aug 1769) [DB4:182-83], of which the above tract possibly is a portion; & 727a. bought 20 Feb 1770 (8 Mar 1770); see notes appended to that deed [DB4:240]; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db240.txt William HARRISON & wife Ann of Isle of Wight Co. sold 185½ acres, a moiety (half) of this tract, to John LAWRENCE, 11 Oct 1770 (12 Oct 1770). [DB4:310-11]; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/04db310.txt William HARRISON of Surry Co. conveyed the entire 371-acre tract to John LAWRENCE, 10 Aug 1787 (11 Oct 1787). [DB7:6-7]; file at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/07db006.txt HARRISON was paid £62.12.7 [or £62.4.7 - the deed & receipt disagree] for the first moiety, & £65 for the second, far less than the £185 that he & WHITE paid GLOVER.
