All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Sophia RAND, LEWIS ALMOND & John RAND to Simon BOYKIN, indenture 1 Oct 1772 (proved 5 Oct 1772) [margin notes] Rand to Boykin This Indenture made this first Day of October Anno Domini one Thousand Seven hundred & Seventy two between Sophiah Rand and Lewis Almond acting Executors of the Last will and Testament of William Rand late of Isle of weigh County and John Rand of the County of Johnson in the province of North Carolina Son and heir at Law of the said William Rand of the one part and Simon Boykin of the County of Southampton of the other part Whereas the said William Rand Decd. did by his last will and Testament bearing Date the third Day of November one Thousand seven Hundred and Sixty Seven and Recorded in the County of Isle of weight order his Estate of what kind Soever after his widow had Received her third part for Dower to be sold to the hiest bidder and Equally Divided among his Children, In pursuance to the said will and Testament the said Ex'ors made sale of the said Estate and one Tract of the Land fell in the hands of one Simon Boykin Party hereto as highest the thereafter Bidder and to ^ end that no disputes might ^ arise concerning the will or any Claim thereafter made by the heir at Law the said John Rand was at the sale concented thereto and agreed to relinquish all pretentions thereto by Joining himself as a party in these presents [page break] [p.] 477 Boykin now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Sophiah Rand & Lewis Almond for and in Consideration of the sum of One Hundred and seventy four pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid at or before the sealing and Delivery of these presents the said John his Rand for and in Consideration of ^ equal part of the aforesaid money pursuant to the will aforesaid the Reciept whereof the said Sophiah Rand Lewis Almond & John Rand doth hereby acknowledge and Discharge the said Simon Boykin his heirs Executors and Administrators for ever hath pursuent to the aforesaid will granted bargained sold and confirm;d and doth by these presents grant bargain and confirm unto the said Simon Boykin one certain Tract or parcel of Land Lying and being in the County of Southampton containing by Estimation Three hundred and forty seven Acres be the same more or less and formerly belonging to one Edward Boykins Decd. and bounded as followeth, Beginning at the head of a Small Branch issuing out of the mill swamp of Richard Cocke Gent. to a white oak in Spencer Jinkinses Line and so along aline of markt Trees to the low Grounds of Black water to an ash from thence along aLine of marked Trees to the Run of the said Black water so Down the Various Courses of the Run to the Run to the mouth of the mill swamp then up the Various Courses of the Run the aforesaid mill swamp to the Beginning with all Houses, out Houses Woods Underwoods ways, waters low Grounds, and the Revertions and revertions, remainder and Remainders Rents issues and Profits thereof and also the Right Title Interest Claim and Demand whatsoever from the said Sophiah Rand, Lewis Almond and John Rand and their heirs of in and to the aforesaid Premises or any part or parcel thereof. To have and hold the aforesaid land and Premises te with all and Singular the appur^nances unto the said Simon Boykin his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him, the said Simon Boykin his heirs and assigns forever and the said Sophiah Rand Lewis Almond and John Rand for Themselves their heirs Ex'ors and Adm'rs doth covenant grant and agree to and with the said Simon Boykin his heirs and assigns that they the said Sophiah Rand Lewis Almond as Executors and John Rand as heir at law of the said William Rand decd. will forever warrant and Defend the said Land and premises against the Claim and Demand of themselves or ay other person or persons claiming under [page break] [p.] 478 them unto the said Simon Boykin his heirs and Assigns forever In Witness whereof the said Sophiah Rand Lewis Almond and John Rand have hereunto set their Hands & affixed their Seales the Day and year first above written The words (and the 1st.
