Deeds Wade MOUNTFORT to Thomas LANKFORD, deed of bargain & sale, 180a., 12 Nov 1772 Wade MOUNTFORT to Sion WILLIAMS, deed of bargain & sale, 20a., 12 Nov 1772 [margin note] Mount. to Lankd. delivered to Elisha Lankford This Indenture made this Twelvth day of Novr. in the year of our Lord Christ 1772 Between Wade Mountfort of the Parish of Nottoway & County of Southampton of the one part & Thomas Lankford of the parish & County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Wade Mounfort for & in Consideration of the sum of one Hundred & forty pounds Current Money of Virginia to him in hand paid the receipt wereof I do hereby Acknowledge my self fully & entirely Satisfied & paid & I the said Mounfort have bargained sold alien'd Enfeoffed & Confirmd & [by] these presents doth bargain sell alien Enfeoff["d' struck] & forever Confirm unto the said Lankford to him & his heirs forever & by these presents I the said Wade Mountfort have bargained & sold unto the said Thomas Lankford one Certain Tract or parcel of land Containing one Hundred & Eighty Acres more or less lying & being on the South side of the Cypress swamp in the County aforesaid & bounded as followeth, to wit Beginning at the Mouth of Jacks branch where it makes in the Cypress swamp run then runing up the water Course of the said branch on Joshua Joyners line till it makes out the said branch on the right hand to a red Oak a markt Tree thence a line of markt Trees on the said Joyners line to a red Oak a Corner Tree Standing Near the mouth of a Small Branch which makes into Jacks branch thence up the branch to the head to a white Oak a Corner Tree in Sion Williams line thence a line of markt Trees on the said Williams line to Joseph Mountforts line thence the said Mountforts line to a pine a Corner Tree in the meadows branch thence down the said branch to the path then from the branch to a small hicary a markt Tree thence a Strait Course to a red Oak at the road then down the road about thirty feet to another red Oak a markt Tree thence a Strait Course thirty feet from the last aforesaid line to a red Oak Near the said meadow branch thence down the said branch on Joseph Mountfort line to the Cypress swamp run then down the said run Joining on Thomas Mountfort land & John Lawrences to the Beginning Place Provided the said Wade Mountfort builds in the lane which makes from the meadow branch to the road then the said Thomas Lankford is to have but Ten feet for a Cart way to the road & the said Lankford Nor his heirs Can lay no Claim to no more land in that lane but Ten feet To have & to hold the aforesaid land & premises together with all woods underwoods ways waters water Courses hereditaments & appurtenances thire unto belonging to the only proper use & behoof of the said Thomas Lankford to him his heirs Ex'ors Am'rs or Assigns forever & I the said Wade Mounfort for my self my heirs Ex's Am'rs or Assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend the said land & premises unto the near the branch run then running up to the head of the sd branch the Various Cours[es] of the branch to a white Oak a Corner Tree in Thomas Lankfots [sic; Lankford's] line then the said Lankforts a line of markt Trees to a pine a Corner of Sion Williams line then the said Williams a line of markt Trees to a pine a Corner in Joshua Joyners line Then the said Joyners a line of markt Trees to a It is possible that some prior debts were included in that purchase price.
