[blank] Day of [blank] in the fifteen year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the third by the grace of God of great Britain, France and Ire land King Defender of the faith &ca. and in the year of our Lord christ one thousand seven hundred seventy five Between John Britt of the parish of nottoway in the County of Southamp ton planter of the one part and Benjamin Crumpler planter of the other Part in the same parish and County Witnesseth that the said John Britt for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty pounds Current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Benjamin Crumpler the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and discharge the said Benjamin Crumpler Hath granted Bargained Sold aliend enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents Doth grant Bargain sell alien enfeoff and confirm unto the said Benj amin Crumpler and to his heirs and assigns for ever all that tract or parcell of land situate lying and being on the South side of Black water swamp in the parish and county aforesaid containing by estimation one hundred and sixty acres of land be the same more or less and bounded as followeth Beginning at a litewood post near a white oak at William Urquharts corner thence a long a line of marked trees to a pine Richard Cockes Corner thence a long a line of marked trees to a oak Richard Manning[?] corner thence a long a line of marked trees to a tarrepin Branch, then along the various courses of the said run ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Edmund Crumplers line then a long the said Crumpler line to a William Urquharts line then a long the said Urquhart line to the beginning being part of a tract of land granted the said John Britt by a Deed bearing date the 12th day of March one thousand senven hundred and sixty four being thereon[?] had may more fully and large appear and all houses out houses Edifices Buildings Yards Gardens Orchards Woods underwoods Tree ways waters water courses profits commodities [page break] [p.] 183 Hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders rents issues and profits thereof and of every part and parcell thereof and all the estate right title interest property claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Britt of in and to the same or any part thereof and all Deeds Evidences and writings touching or in any wise concerning the premises to have and to hold the said tract or parcell of land and premises with the appertenances unto the said Benjamin Crumpler and to his hiers and Assigns to the only use and behoof of the said Benjamin Crumpler his hiers and assigns forever and the said John Britt for himself, his hiers Executors and Administrators doth covenant, promise and grant to and with the said Benjamin Crumpler his hiers and assigns for ever by these presents in manner and form following that is to say that he the said John Britt at the time of ensealing and delivery of these presents hath good right full power and lawfull authority to sell and convey all and singular the said tract or parcell of land and premises with the appurtenances herein before mentioned unto the said Ben= jamin Crumpler in fee simple and that the said John Britt is seized of a good and indefeasible estate in fee in the same at the time of Executing this conveyance and that the said Benjamin Crumpler his hiers and assigns shall and may at all times for ever hereafter peaceably and quietly have hold use occupie possess and enjoy the said premises with the apper= tenances free clear and discharged of and the title claim and demand of any persons or person and from all Dowers in= tails Mortgages Debts judgements Executions and all other incumbrances of what nature or kind soever and also that he the said John Britt and his hiers and assigns ag'st and his hiers the said tract or parcell of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Benjamin Crumpler his hiers and assigns against all and every person and persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same shall and will warrant and for ever defend by these in Witness whereof the said John Britt hath of John Pursell John Mercer and James Mercer three wit nesses thereto and order'd to be recorded Sam: Kello cct. Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 5 (1773-75), pp. 182-84 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 2 Additional information: The deed mentioned, dated 12 Mar 1764, conveyed only 100 acres, from William MERCER to John BRITT. The descriptions begin the same. (Southampton Co. John BRITT patented 383 acres, 26 Sep 1760, also cornering on Richard COCKE - though at a turkey oak, not a pine. John MERCER [Sr.], left will, 25 Jul 1775, witnessed by John BRITT and John & Benjamin CRUMPLER, naming son John MERCER [Jr.] and John PURSELL his executors (WB3:136-37).
