All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds John OBERRY & wife Elizabeth to son Barnabas "Barnaby" DRAKE [Jr.], deed of bargain & sale, 100 acres, 8 Jul 1779 [margin notes] [p.] 413 Oberry to Drake D.d to B Drake ~^~ This Indenture made this eighth day of July in the year of our lord Christ one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Nine between John Obery [sic] and Elizabeth his wife of the parish of Nottoway and county of Southamp =ton of the one part and Barnaby Drake of the ["aforesaid" erased] parish and County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Oberry and Elizabeth his wife for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred pounds Good and lawful current money of Virginia to them in hand paid `the Receipt whereof they doth hereby Acknowledge themselves fully Satified and paid and I the Said John Obery and Eliza [sic] his wife have bargained Sold Aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain Sell alien enfeoff and forever Confirm unto the said Barnaby Drake his heirs and assigns forever all the right title interest Possession Claim and Demand of them the said John Obery and Elizabeth his wife part of a tract or parcel of Land Containing One hundred acres be the same more or Less which said land fell to the said John Oberry by heirship from the deat of his brother Nathan Obery who died in his non age in the continential Service [sic] begining at a maple in John Oberys line near the run of the Cypress Swamp thence down down [sic] the Various [courses] of the run of the said swamp. to the mouth of the great branch thence up the said branch on hardy Bunns Line and Jonas Joyners line to a from thence a line of marked trees on John Blythes line to the maple the begining lightwood Stump ["Swamp" overwritten] a corner place^ Containing as above mentioned One hundred acres more or less To have and to hold the said land to him the said ["Bar" erased] Barnaby Drake his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever and they the said John Obery and his wife Elizabeth for themselves their heirs executors and administrators shall and will warrant and forever defend the said land and premises [erasure] unto the said Barnaby Drake his heirs Executors administrators from all manner of persons whatsoever laying Any claim by from or under them in witness whereof the said John Obery and Elizabeth his wife hath hereunto set their hands and Affix'd his Seals the day and date above written.
