All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Lemuel JONES, deed of emancipation (of nine slaves), 13 Aug 1782 (14 Nov 1782) [margin notes] [p.] (85) Lemuel Jones s Man.s I Lemuel Jones of Southampton County virginia having under my care five negroes (to wit) Tom aged forty eight, Faney Thiry nine, Nann sixty, Sampson twenty two, & Siller twenty two years whom I have heretofore held as slaves, but being fully pursu =aded That freedom is the natural right of all mankind, &that it is my duty to do unto others as I wou'd be done by, do Therefore hereby Emancipate and set the said Negroes free, and I do for my Self my Heirs Executors and administrators, relinquish all my Right Title Interest &Claim orpretention of claim Whatsoever either to their persons orto any estate they may Hereafter acquire, and having also four who are now in Their minority Vizt.
