All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds John OBERRY & wife Elizabeth, Joseph SCOTT Jr. & Miriam SCOTT to John BOWERS of Nansemond Co., deed of bargain & sale, 130* acres, Nov 1783 (13 Nov 1783) [margin notes] [p.] (192) Oberry and wife To Bowers This Indenture made this [blank] Day of November in the Year of our lord Christ One thousand Seventy Eight and three Between John Oberry and Elizabeth his Wife, Joseph Scott Junior and Meriam [sic;] Miriam Scott of the County of Southampton & Parish of Nottoway of the One part and John Bowers of Nansemond County of the other part Witness that the said John Oberry & Elizabeth wife Joseph Scott junr. & Miriam Scott for and in Consideration of the Just & full Sum of Sixty five pounds Current Money of Virginia by the said John Bowers to them in hand paid before the Ensealing & Delivery of these Presents the Receipt Whereof they do hereby Acknowledge and themselves therewith fully and Intirely Satisfied Contented & Paid and thereof Acquit & Discharge the said John Bowers his heirs and Assigns forever, They the said John Oberry & Elizabeth his Wife Joseph Scott junr. & Meriam Scott have Granted Bargained Sold Enfeoffed Released Set over delivered & Confirmed, and by these presents Doth Grant bargain Sell Enfeoff Release set over Deliver and Confirm Unto the said John Bowers and to his heirs and Assigns forever All that Messuage Plantations tract and Parcel of Land Whereon the said John Oberry & Mary Johnson now lives situate lying & being in the County of Southampton & Parish of Nottoway Aforesaid & Being all the Land now in the possession or seizen of the said John Oberry Containing by Estimation in all One hundred & Thirty Acres be the same more or less and Bounded as followeth to wit Begining in Sion Williams's Line at the run of the short Bridge swamp thence the said Williams's line to a pine a Corner tree of said Land Standing in the Line of the lands Which the Aforesaid John Bowers lately bought of Cutchins [sic; Scutchings] Councill thence the said Line To David Turner's Line & thence the said Turner's line to the aforesaid Swamp and Down the various Courses of the Run of the said Swamp to the Begining and [page break] [p.] (193) And all the houses out houses edifices Buildings woods ways Waters and Water Courses Pastures Low Grounds Gardens and Orchards Profits Commodities Hereditaments and Appurte nances Whatsoever to the same Belonging or in any wise Appurtaining and the Reversion & Reversion Remainder And Remainders, rents Issues & profits thereof and all the Estate right Title Interest Claim and Demand of them the said John Oberry & Elizabeth his Wife Joseph Scott Junr. & Meriam Scott of in and to the same & every part and Parcel thereof To have and to hold the said Plantation Messuage tract and parcel of one hundred and thirty Acres of Land and Premises with all & Every the Appurtenances as aforesaid unto him the said John Bowers and to his Heirs and Assigns Forever, To the Only proper use and Behoof of him the said John Bowers and to his heirs & Assigns forever, and the said John Oberry and Elizabeth his wife Joseph Scott Junr. & Meriam Scott for themselves their heirs Executors Administrators & Assigns the said Plantations Messuage tract and parcel of one hundred & thirty acres of Land be the same more or less as foresaid with the Appurtenances unto him the said John Bowers and to his Heirs and Assigns Forever, against them the said John Oberry and Elizabeth his Wife Joseph Scott Junr. & Meriam Scott. and against their and each of their heirs or Assigns & Against all persons Claiming or to Claim from for by or under them or either of them shall & Will Warrant and Forever defend by these presents and The said John Oberry for himself heirs and Assigns the Aforesaid plantations tract and Parcel of one hundred and thirty Acres of Land and Premises With the Appurtenances unto him the said John Bowers and to his heirs & Assigns forever Not only against against the said John Oberry and his heirs And [page break] [p.] (194)- And Assigns but also against all & Every Other Person Whatso =ever Claiming or demanding the same or any part or parcel thereof Shall & will Warrant and forever Defend by these Presents In Witness Whereof the said John Oberry & Elizabeth his Wife Joseph Scott and Meriam Scott. have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the Day & Year first above Written - Signed Sealed & Delivered} John Oberry .........
