Day of November In the Year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred Eighty & four:- Between John Bowers and Martha his wife of the County of Southampton and Parish of Nottoway of the one part and Sion Williams of the County and Parish Aforesaid of the other [page break] [p.] (316.) Other Part: Witness, That the said John Bowers And Martha his wife for & In consideration of the Just & full sum of Sixty five Pounds; Current Money of Virginia by the said Sion Williams to them in hand Paid Before the ensealing & Delivery of these Presents. the receipt whereof the said John Bowers and Martha his wife Doth Hereby acknowledge, and Thereof acquit & discharge the said Sion Williams his Heirs & Assigns forever, and themselves therewith fully & Intirely Satisfied Contented & Paid, They the said John Bowers & Martha his wife Hath, Granted Bargained sold Aliened Enfeoffed released set over Delivered & Confirmed, & by these Presents Doth Grant Bargain sell alien enfeoff release set over deliver & Confirm unto the said Sion Williams & to his Heirs & assigns forever, All that Messuage Tract & Parcel of Land whereon the said John Bowers now lives, Situate Lying & being in the County of Southampton and Parish of Nottoway Aforesaid, Containing by Estimation One hundred & Thirty five, acres be the same more or less. And being all that Plantation Messuage. Tract & Parcel of Land. which the said John Bowers lately bought of John Oberry (& Others) by Indenture bearing Date on or about November One thousand seven hundred & Eighty Three: And Bounded as followeth (to wit.). Begining at a Pine, on the run of the short bridge swamp in the said Sion Williams's line and thence his said Line to a pine a corner tree of the said Lands Standing in the line of another Tract or part of the said Sion Williams's Line. or in Scutching. [sic; Scutchings] Council's. Thence. said line to another pine in David Turner's line. Thence. the said Turner's Line. to the Aforesaid short bridge swamp and Down the Various Courses of the run of the said Swamp to the Begining. and all the houses out houses Edifices buildings woods underwoods ways Waters & Water courses Lowgrounds Swamps Marshes meadows Pastures feedings Gardens Orchards Profits Commodities Hereditaments & Appurtenances Whatsoever to the same Belonging or in any wise Appurtaining And [page break] [p.] (317.) And the reversion and reversion remainder & remainders rents Issues & Profits Thereof And all the Estate right Title Claim & demand of them the said John Bowers & Martha his wife of in & to the same & every part and Parcel Thereof To have and to hold The said Plantation Messuage, Tract, & parcel of One hundred and Thirty five acres (be the same more or less) and. Premises Aforesaid with all and every the Appurtenances as Aforesaid. unto him the said Sion Williams. &to his heirs and assigns forever To the only proper use and Behoof of him the said Sion Williams his heirs and Assigns forever, And the said John Bowers & Martha his Wife for themselves their heirs Executors Adm'ors: & Assigns the said Plantation Messuage tract and parcel of One hundred & thirty five Acres of Land & Premises as aforesaid with all & every the Appurtenances as Aforesaid, Unto him the said Sion Williams and to his heirs & Assigns forever, against them the said John Bowers & Martha his Wife, & against their heirs. executors administrators and assigns & against all & every other Person or persons. Whatsoever Claiming or demanding the same or any part or parcel Thereof. Shall & will warrant & Forever; Defend by these presents, In Witness whereof the said John Bowers & Martha his wife have hereunto set thier. This Indenture with the Receipt Thereon Endorsed were Acknowledged by John Bowers & Martha his wife parties hereto _ she haveing been first Privily Examined as the Law directs _ & Ordered to be Recorded Teste Sam Kello: Cl: ~^-^~ [deed end] [margin notes] Williams & wife To Bowers -(')- This Indenture, Made this 11th. Day of November In the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred Eighty & four Between Sion Williams and Mary his wife of [Parish] of Nottoway & County of Southampton of the one part & John Bowers of the County & Parish aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Sion Williams & Mary _ his wife for and in Consideration of the Just & full sum of One hundred Pounds Current Money of Virginia, by the said John Bowers to them in hand paid before the Ensealing [&] Delivery of these Presents the Receipt whereof, the said Sion Williams & Mary his wife Doth hereby acknowledge & thereof Acquit & discharge the said John Bowers his heirs & assigns forever, & themselves therewith fully and intirely satisfied Contented & Paid They the said Sion Williams and Mary his wife Have granted Bargained sold aliened Enfeoffed released set over delivered & Confirmed & by these Presents Doth Grant Bargain sell alien Enfeoff release set over deliver & Confirm unto the said John Bowers & to his heirs & Assigns forever, all that Plantation Messuage tract & Parcel of Land whereon the said Sion Williams now lives & being the Lands the said Sion Williams bought of James Jordan Scott, Ann Closier & Thomas Lankford, Being particu- larly & Distinctly described, as by the seperate deeds Therefore is Expressed & declared, Situate Lying & being in the County of Southampton and Parish of Nottoway Aforesaid Containing by [page break] [p.] (319_) by Estimation One hundred & fifty acres be the same more or less, & bounded as followeth (to wit) Begining at a dead red oak a Corner Tree in Joshua Joyner's line, thence the said Joyner's line to a spanish Oak another Corner tree of the said Land in Joseph Hills line Thence the said Hills Line to a pine in Joseph Mountfortts line on the side of the drinking hole branch Thence the said Mountfort's line to a red Oak In Lankfords line, Thence Lankfords Line to a white Oak in the head of a branch thence down the said branch to the Begining, and all the houses out houses. edifices Buildings Woods under woods ways Waters & Water Courses Marshes Meadows, Low_grounds, Gardens, Orchards, Profits Commodities, Hereditaments and Appurtenances Whatsoever thereunto Belonging or in any wise appurtaining: & the reversion & Reversion remainder & remainders rents Issues & Profits thereof And all the Estate right Title Claim or demand of them the said Sion Williams, & Mary his wife of in & to the same & every part & Parcel Thereof: To have and to hold the said Plantation.
