Day of January in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty five Between Edwin Gray & William Thomas Executors of the Last Will and Testament of Thomas Blunt Deceased of of the one part and William Bennett of the County of Southampton Merchant of the Other part Whereas the said Thomas (Blunt) [page break] [p.] (347) Blunt was in his Life time and at the time of his death seized in fee of Several tracts of land in the County of Southampton but more Particularly of one tract of land Situate in the said County ["of Southampton" struck] on the North side of Nottoway River being the Plantation whereon he lived Containing by Estimation Three hundred and forty acres more or less, part thereof being bounded as is expressed in a patent Granted to Henry Blunt bearing date the 10th. Day of April 1751. for Three hundred & forty acres, 33 acres thereof he exchanged with William Scott for the same quantity and Bounded as is expressed in a deed from William Scott to the said Thomas Blunt Bearing date the 11th. Day of May 1775. Reference being thereunto had Will more fully and at larg appear, and being so seized made his last Will and Testament In Writing Bearing date the 26th. Day of September One thousand seven hundred & Seventy Seven and of such Will Appointed Edwin Gray & William Thomas (parties hereto) his Ex'ors who in the Court of the said County of So.ampton duly proved & recorded the same & obtained a probat thereof and Took upon themselves the Execution thereof, In which said Will amongst other things the Testator Lent the use of the Plantation aforesaid with the lands to his wife Anne for the term of her Natural Life further directed and desired that after the Death of his wife all his lands so lent shou'd by his Ex'ors: be sold for the best price that cou'd be had and that the money ariseing from the sale shou'd be applied as in and by the said Will is Particularly directed, And whereas by one Certain This Indenture bearing date the 16th. Day of February 1781. Made Between the said Ann Blunt as widow and Relict of Thomas Blunt Deceased of the One part and the said Edwin Gray William Thomas, & one Mills Godwin of the other part she the said Anne for the Consideration therein expressed Released & Conveyed unto the said Edwin Gray William (Thomas) [page break] [p.] (348) Thomas and Mills Godwin or either of them & to their Assigns of her right Title Interest & life Estate of in and to the Aforesaid Plantation and Land herein ~ Before mentioned for the purposes mentioned in the Last Will & Testament of the said Thomas Blunt Dec'ed: as above recited as in & by the said Will & Deed herein mentioned (which have been recorded) will Appear And whereas by the said Edwin Gray & William Thomas Executors of the said Thomas Blunt dec'ed: do well in Virtue of the Deed Aforesaid as in Pursuance of the Last Will & Testament of the said Thomas Blunt have made Sale of the said Plantation & Tract of land Containing Three hundred and forty Acres as aforesaid _ at Publick Auction to the Aforesaid William Bennett for the sum of Four hundred an twenty one pounds being the mosthat cou'd be had for the same, Now this Indenture Therefore Witnesseth that the said Edwin Gray and William Thomas executors of the last will & testam =ent of the said Thomas Blunt deceased in virtue of the powers given to them in the said Will, and for & in Consider =ation of the Aforesaid sum of Four hundred and twenty one Pounds, to them in hand paid and Secured by the said William Bennett at or before the Sealing and Delivery of these presents, the receipt Whereof the said Edwin Gray & William Thomas do hereby Acknowledge to be in Confirmation of the sale afore =said and for the uses Intents & purposes in the will of the said Thomas Blunt expressed, have granted bargained sold aliened, released & Confirmed and by these presen =ts do grant bargain sell alien, release & Confirm unto the said William Bennett and to his heirs and assigns forever all that Plantation and tract or parcel of land & premises with the appurtenances situate lying & being on the north side of Nottoway river being the land Whereon the said Thomas Blunt formerly lived Containing by Estimation three hundred and forty acres, and bounded as is before expressed and all houses out houses, buildings Yards ~ Gardens Orchards trees ways waters Water Courses profits Commodities Hereditaments, and appurtenances, to the said Tract of land (Belonging) [page break] [p.] (349) Belonging or in any wise appurtaining, and the reversion and reversions, Remainder and Remainders rents Issues. and profits thereof &c. all Deeds evidences and writings touching or in any wise Concerning The same To have and to hold, the said plantation tract or Parcel of Land & Premises. with the appurtenances unto the said William Bennett his heirs and assings, [sic] To the only proper use and behoof of the said William Bennett his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Edwin Gray and William Thomas for themselves their heirs Ex'ors & adm'ors do hereby promise and grant to and with the said William Bennett. his heirs & Assigns the said Plantation tract or parcel of land & Premises against themselves and their heirs & all Others Claiming under them to the said William Bennett his heirs & Assigns to Warrant & forever Defend by these Presents In Witness whereof the said Edwin Gray and William Thomas Ex'ors of the last Will & Testament of Thomas Blunt Decead: have to these Presents set their hands, and Seals the Day & Year first above Written - Sealed & Delivered} Edwin Gray ¤Seal¤ In presence of --} Arthur Foster } William Thomas ¤Seal¤ John Wright } Thomas Ridley } ¯¯¯ At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 13th. day of January 1785.
