All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Thomas MOUNTFORTT & wife Sarah to John LAWRENCE deed of bargain & sale, 190a., 5 Feb 1787, acknowledged 12 Apr 1787 [margin notes] Mountfortt and wife to Lawrence Carried to Court Decr. 1794 This Indenture made this twentieth day of October one thousand seven hundred and eighty_six Between Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife of Southampton County of the one part and John Lawrence of Isle of wight County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and ninety pounds current money of Virginia to me in hand paid by the said John Lawrence the receipt whereof the said Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife doth hereby acknowledge; he the said Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife hath granted bargained & sold aliened and confirm'd and by these presents doth grant bargained & sold aliened and confirm'd and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell alien and confirm [sic] unto the said John Lawrence his heirs and assigns forever all that messuage or tenement, [page break] [p. (634) situate lying and being in the County of Southampton near black water River, Begining at a small Gum in Thomas Lankfords line thence up the said Lankfords line south forty-five degrees west two hundred and forty- poles to the cypress swamp, then south sixty degrees east, two hundred poles down the said swamp various courses thereof to Thomas Lankford line thence along the said Lankfords line to John Lawrence line thence up the said Lawrence line thence north eighty Degrees to the first station containing by estimation one hundred and ninety acres be the same more or less it being part of a tract of land that William Glover purchased of the Ex'ors of William Haynes decd. by deed bearing date, and also all lands, trees, woods Underwoods tithes commons common of pasture, profits commo- =dities advantages heriditaments ways waters, and appurtenances what =soever to the same messuage or tenements and premises above mention =ed belonging or in any wise appertaining, and also the reversion & reversion remainder and remainders, rents, and services of the said premises; and of every part thereof, and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife, of in and to the said messuage tenements and premises and every part thereof To have and to hold the said messuage or tenements and all singular the said premises above mentioned and every part and parcell thereof with the appurtenances unto the said John Lawrence his heirs and assigns to the only proper use & behoof of the said John Lawrence his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Mountfortt and Sarah his wife for them[selves] and their heirs the said messuage or tenements and premises and every part thereof against him & [page break] [p.] (635 ) his heirs and against all every other person or persons whatsoever to the said John to the said John Lawrence his heirs and assigns forever and his heirs and assigns, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents, In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals the day and year first above written Sealed and delivered in presence of us Thomas Mountfortt *Seal* his Micajah X Griffin mark her Jesse Douglass Sarah x Mountfortt *Seal* Mark Elisha Whitney Thomas Mountfortt Received on the date of the within written Indenture of the within named John Lawrence one hundred & ninety pounds current money of Virginia being the consideration to the within premises Micajah X Griffin Jesse Douglass Thomas Mountfortt *Seal* Elisha Whitney Thomas Mountfortt [margin note] Exd.
