All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Benjamin BEAL, Jr., deed of emancipation (of Mingo), dated and acknowledged 12 Feb 1789 Benjamin Beal Jr. Manumission of Mingo I Benjamin Beal Junr. of Southampton County Virginia having under my cear [sic; care] a negro man Called Mingo Aged about Twenty Seven years which I have heretofore held as a slave but being fully - persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do by others as I would desire to be done by in the like Situation) Therefore I do Emancipate and set free the said Negro Man Mingo and I do for myself my - heirs Executors and administrators Relinquish all my right title Interest and Claim or pretention of Claim whatsoever either to his person or to any estate he may hereafter acquire without any Interruption from me or any Person claiming or to claim for by or under me In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twelfth day of February 1789 ~ Benjamin Beal {sl} At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 12th day of Feby. 1789 This Deed for the emancipation of Negro Mingo was Acknowledged by the said Benja.
