All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Joseph MOUNTFORT & wife Sarah of Nansemond Co. to Hardy JOHNSON, deed of bargain & sale, 379a., 17 Oct 1788, acknowledged 12 Feb 1789 [margin notes] Joseph Mountford & wife to Hardy JOHNSON del.d to Philip Pitman This Indenture made this Seventeenth day of Oct. in the Year of our lord one thousand Seven hundred and eighty eight between Joseph Mountford and Sarah his wife of Nancemmond County in the of Virginia of One part and Hardy Johnson of the County of Southampton & state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Joseph Mountford & Sarah his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of three hundred pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by the said Hardy Johnson the receipt whereof the said Joseph Mountfort & Sarah his wife doth hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and Discharge the said Hardy Johnson his heirs executors and administrators hath granted bargained and sold aliened Enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and Confirm unto the said Hardy Johnson and to his heirs and assigns for ever one Certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Southampton aforesaid Containing three hundred and Seventy nine the Same more or less and bounded as followeth Begining on the Sipress [sic; Cypress] Swamp [page break] [p.] 297 and runing down the sd.- Swamp to Elisha Langfords [sic; Lankford's] and from thence to Jno. Bowers and by a line of marked trees to the land of Ann Clothers [sic; Closer's] & from thence to Cutchings Counsels [sic; Scutchings Council's] and so to the first Station together with all houses buildings yards Gardens Orchards trees ways waters water Courses profits Commodities hereditaments and appertenances to the said tract or parcel of land belonging or in any wise appertaining and the reversi= =on and reversions Remainder and Remainders rents Issues and profits hereof and of every part and parcel there of and all the estate right property title claim and demand whatsoever of them the said Joseph Mountfort and Sarah of in or to the same to have and to hold the said three hundred and seventy nine acres of land with the appertenannces unto the said Hardy Johnson and to his heirs and assigns forever & the said Joseph Mountfort and Sarah for themselves their heirs executors and adm'rs doth covenant Promise and grant to and with the said Hardy Johnson his heirs &c_ that the said Joseph Mountfort & Sarah his wife will warrant the said Plantation tract or parcel of land and premises hereby sold unto the said Hardy Johnson his heirs & assigns against the lawfull claim or demand of the said Joseph Mountfort & Sarah his wife their heirs and assigns and against the Claim & Demand of every other person or persons whatsoever In witness whereof the sd.
