All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Joseph HILL & wife Martha to James UZZELL, indenture dated 4 Nov 1794, presented 11 Dec 1794, proved 9 Apr 1795 [margin notes] Hill to Uzzell This Indenture made this 4.th day of November in the year of our Lord 1794 between Joseph Hill & Martha Hill his wife of the county of Sussex of the one part & James Uzzell of the county of Southampton of the other part Witnesseth that the said Joseph Hill for and in consideration of the sum of £50 to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit & forever discharge the said James Uzzell his Exors & admr.s have and each of them hath granted Sold alien'd releas'd enfeoff'd and confirmed & by these Presents do and each of them doth grant bargain sell alien release enfeoff & confirm unto the said James Uzzell certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the said Parish of Nottoway & county of of Southampton containing by estimation 150 Acres & bounded according to the ["known" inserted] most antient and reputed bounds thereof together with all the houses outhouses woods ways waters Profits commodities hereditaments & appurtenances & the Reversion, & reversions Remainder & remainders and all the estate right title Interest claim and demand of the said James Uzzell of in and to the same and every part thereof To have and to hold the said tract of land with all and every of its appurtenances unto the said Uzzell his heirs and assigns to the only Proper use & behoof of the said James Uzzell his heirs and assigns forever & the said James Uzzell for himself & his heirs doth covenant Promise & agree to and with the said James Uzzell for himself & his heirs that the said Ja.s Uzzell his heirs and assigns shall or lawfully may forever hereafter Peaceably & quietly have hold use occupy Possess & enjoy the Premises herein before granted unto him the s.d James Uzzell & his heirs without the lawful Suit let or molestation of the s.d Joseph Hill & Martha his wife and their heirs or any other Person lawfully claiming or to claim the same and the said Joseph Hill & Martha for themselves & their heirs do further covenant & agree to and with the said James Uzzell & his heirs that they will at all times hereafter at the Proper costs & Charges in the law of the s.d James Uzzell his heirs or assigns do make & Execute or cause to be made done & Executed such other lawful assurance for the more absolute conveying the above granted Premises with their appurtenances unto the said James Uzzell his heirs or assigns his or their council learn'd in the law shall be devis'd advis'd or required and lastly the said Joseph Hill & Martha his wife do Promise and agree to and with the said James Uzzell that they [page break] [p.] (176) said Joseph Hill & Martha the above granted tract or Parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said James Uzzell his heirs & assigns against the title claim or demand of them the said Joseph Hill & Martha his wife and their heirs and all other Persons whatsoever shall and will warrant & forever defend In Witness whereof whereof the parties to these Presents have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day year first above written Seal'd and deliver'd Joseph Hill ¤seal¤ In Presents of Will Goodson } John Dennin } Will.
