Fort Janry. 23d. 1814 This Indenture made this eighth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety Six, between Brittain Britt of the County of Southampton, of the one part, and Joseph Britt Senr. of the same County of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Brittain Britt for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds Current money of Virginia, to him in hand paid by the said Joseph Britt, before the ensealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof the said Brittain Britt doth hereby Acknowledge, hath granted, bargained & sold, and doth by these presents, Grant, bargain, and Sell unto the said Joseph Britt, his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract and parcel of Land, situate lying & being, in the County of Southampton, on the South side of a branch called Tarrepen branch, containing by estimation, one hundred Acres, be the same more or less, it being apart of an old pat= tent, Taken up and Surveyed by Edward Britt Senr. and bounded as follow =eth, Begining at the run of Tarripen branch in Eli Boykin line then along a line of Markt trees to a corner tree a red oak in the said Boy= kins line, a corner tree, thence along a line of marked trees to a white oak, a corner tree in Eli Boykins line, then along a line of marked, [page break] [p.] 502 trees to a corner tree in William Boykins line, then along a line of marked Trees to the run of the said Tarripen branch, and down the said run to the begining, and the reversion, and reversions, remainder & remainders rents, Issues & profits thereof, and also all the estate, right, title, Interest claim and demand whatsoever, of him the said Britton Britt, and his heirs for ever, of in or to the same, or in any part thereof, To have and to hold the said Land & premises, with the Appurtenances thereunto belonging, unto the said Joseph Britt his heirs, and assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of the said Joseph Britt, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Brittain Britt for his part, his heirs, executors and Administrators, doth covenant, promise & Grant, with the said Joseph Britt, his heirs and assigns, against the lawful claim, Title and demand of him the said Britton Britt, his heirs, and all and every other per= son or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant, and forever defend by these Presents, In Witness whereof, I the said Britton Britt, hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal, the day and year first above written ____ Signed Sealed & delivered In presence of ___ } Britton Britt ĪSealĪ his } Edmund x Stephenson } mark } Randolph Edwards } his } Armstrong x Edwards } mark } Memorandum that on the eighth day of October 1796 full possession and seizen of the Land, tenements & premises within mentioned, was had & taken by the within named Britton Britt, and by him delivered to the said Joseph Britt, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns, to the true intent & meaning of the within written Indenture ___ Britton Britt ĪsealĪ Received the eighth day of October 1796 of the within named Joseph Britt, the sum of one hundred & fifty Pounds, it being the considera= tion money to be by him paid ___ Britton Britt ĪsealĪ At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 21st day of Augt. 1797.
