        deed of bargain & sale, Lot 11, Jerusalem, 27 Nov 1797 (16 Jul 1798)

This Indenture made This twenty seventh day of November 
in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and ninety seven Be=
tween Exum Scott and Ann his wife of the County of Isle of wight 
and State of Virginia of the one part, and William Washington of the County 
of Southampton and state aforesaid of the other part 
witnesseth, that the said Exum Scott and Ann his wife for and 
in consideration of the Sum of Nine Pounds Current Money 
of Virginia, to them in hand paid by the said William Washington 
at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the 
recept whereof the said Exum Scott & Ann- his wife doth 
hereby acknowledge and themselves fully Satisfyed, 
contented and paid, Have bargained and Sold, and by these presents 
doth hereby. Sell, Alien, Enfeoff & forever confirm, unto the said 
William Washington his heirs & assigns for ever a certain parcell 
or Lott of Ground lying and being situate in the Town of 
Jerusalem in the County of Southampton and distinguished 
by the plan of the said Town by No. Eleven, containing by Survey 
half an Acre, Together with all houses  out Houses, Gardens, 
Waters, Water Courses, Mines and minerals, and all Other the 
profits and Commodities thereunto same belonging or in any wise Appur=
=taining, to have and to hold the said bargained premises 
with the Appurtenances, unto the said William Washington 
his heirs [&] assigns forever, with the reversion & Reversions, remain
=der & remainders, Rents Issues & profits thereof & every part 
and parcel thereof, and the said Exum Scott & Ann his Wife 
for themselves, their heirs, Executors, & Admrs. do Covenant grant 
and agree, to and with the said Wm. Washington his heirs & Assigns, 
in the following manner (towitt) that the sd. Exum Scott & 
Ann- his Wife, at the time of the Signing Sealing and delivery 
of these presents, are lawfully seized & possessed, of, in and to the said 
bargained premises, in a good & pure estate in fee Simple, and that 
they have a good right and legal Authority to Sell and convey 
the same in manner aforesaid and that the same fully & 
Clearly acquitted & discharged from all former gifts grants Decrees 
& Mortgages, & from all manner of Incumbrance whatsoever and 
that the said Exum Scott & Ann- his Wife, hath a good right to Sell 
& convey the said Lott & premises unto the said Wm. Washington 
his heirs & Assigns forever, and that they will warrant and forever 
defend the same, unto the said William Washington his heirs 
and assigns forever,  In witness whereof the said

of nine pounds in full the consideration money within mentioned

         At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 
16th. day of July 1798  This Indenture and the receipt thereon 
endorsed ware proved by the oathe's of William Evans  Benjamin Evans 
& Edwin Speed _____ three of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded _
