Fort Feby. 1808 Exd. This Indenture made 15th. day of October Anno Domini 1804 Between Robert Goodwyn Thomas Ridley James Wilkinson John Taylor and Edwin Gray Gentlemen Trustees as appointed by an Act of Assembly of Virginia, bearing date December the 7th. Anno Domini 1791; for the purpose of laying off a town by the name of Jerusalem, on the land of Joseph and William Scott adjoining the Court house of Southampton of the one part, and Joshua Fort of the other; Witnesseth that the said Trustees as aforesaid for and in Consideration of five pounds Current Money of Virginia to be paid by the said J. Fort pursuant to the Aforesaid Act to the said Joseph and William Scott do bargain Sell Alien and Confirm unto the said J. Fort and his heirs forever one lot or parcel of land lying and being in the Town of Jerusalem Number eight bounded as follows (Vizt.) Begining on the West Side of the Main Street at the S.E. binding on Lot No. 7 237 feet 9 Inches to the S.W. Corner of No. 7. Corner of Lot No. Seven, ^ thence Along the East Side of Lot No. Nine, Ninety four Inches to Capt. Josiah Vicks land (a Small Slip of his lying between the said Town and John Underwoods Land) thence Along the Land of Capt. Josiah Vicks two hundred thirty Seven feet nine Inches to the Main Street thence Along the main Street Ninety feet four Inches to the Begining. To have and to hold the said Lot or parcel of [land] with the appurtenances thereto belonging to the said Jos. Fort and his heirs forever, and the Said J. Fort do covenant and Agree in the Manner and form following, (Vizt.) that he the said J. Fort or his heirs Shall and Will build on the said Lot Number eight a dwelling house Sixteen feet Square at Least; with a brick or stone Chimney to be fit for habitation in ten Years from the Seventh day of December Anno Domini 1801 agreeable to the last act of Assembly Allowing further time for building on the said Lots, Which Act bears date the third day of January Anno Domini 1803 __ and also do punctually pay the Money Ariseing from the sale of the said Lot to the [page break] [p.] 397 former Proprietors or their Legal representatives, and the said Trustees do Covenant and Agree to, and with the Said J. Fort and his heirs Well and truly to perform all and every the Covenants and Agreements Which on their part by the true intent and Meaning of these pre =Sents they Ought to perform; and that the said J. Fort his heirs or Assigns may peaceably and Quietly enter Upon, have, hold, Possess, and enjoy all the premises with the Appurtenances Above Mentioned; provided that the said J. Fort doth Comply with the Aforesaid Covenant and Agreement; but Should the said J.
