L. Jenkins of the County of Southampton of the one part and Arthur Doles of the aforesaid County of the other part~ Witnesseth that the said Benjamin Britt and Wilton Jinkins for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Arthur Doles at or before the Sealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt where =of the said Benjamin Britt and Wilton Jinkins Doth hereby acknowledge and themselves therewith to be fully Satisfied and paid and thereof doth Clearly acquit and discharge the said Arthur Doles his heirs executorsand administrators forever by these presents, Hath given granted bargained Sold enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these presents doth give grant bargain Sell enfeoff and Confirm unto the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns forever, one Certain tract or parcel of land Containing by Estimation Forty Six acres, be the same more or less, and bounded as follows, Begining at a Stooping Beech standing in the Mouth of the deep branch from thence up the said branch to a large pine from thence to a pine a Corner tree of Bowdens and Joseph Britts line, from [thence] along a line of marked trees through the plantation and through the orchard a line of Stakes to a small[?] gum from thence a line of marked trees to a white oak Standing at the Main run of black water so up the said run to the first Station_ with all houses orchards Gardens fences Woods underwoods waters and water Courses and with all profits Commodities and advantages, Emoluments and Appurtenances whatsoever part and parcel thereof ~ ~ ~ ~ [page break] [p.] 144 To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with all and Singular the appurtenances unto the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns forever and the said Benjamin Britt and Wilton Jinkins for themselves and their heirs and assigns the said granted land with its premises and their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns, Shall Well and truly warrant and Defend forever by these presents against any person or persons thereof and the said Benjamin Britt and Wilton Jinkins for themselves and their heirs doth grant Consent and agree to and with the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns in manner and form following (Vizt.) the [said] Britt & Jinkins at the time of the Sealing and deliver[y] of these presents is and Stands Seized of and indisible Estate in fee Simple of in and to the said premises, and that they have good right and Lawful authority to Sell and Convey the same in manner and form aforesaid and that the same Shall forever remain to the said Arthur Doles his heirs and assigns freely and Clearly Exonerated and discharged of and from all and all manner of Sales and Titles of [dowry] and all other rights and [e]States whatsoever_ In Witness whereof we have hereunto Set our hands and Seals the day and year above written ~ Signed Sealed acknowledged } Benjamin Britt ĪSealĪ In the presence of ~ ~ ~} Willie Doles ~ ~ } Wilton Jinkins ĪSealĪ Robert Horn ~ ~ ~ } John Crumpler Senr._ ~ } At a Court held for the County of Southampton the 21st day of July 1806 This Indenture was acknowledged by Benjamin Britt and Wilton Jinkins party there to and ordered to be recorded Sam Kello Cl Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 11 (1805-09), pp. 143-44 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 5 Southampton Co., VA, Court Minute Book 1799 - 1803, pp. 124a-124c The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 176 [also on Reel 32] Benjamin's father John BRITT bought a 175-acre tract from Thomas WILLIAMSON 12 Jan 1762. A transcription of the deed (DB3:161-62) is posted at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/deeds/03db161.txt The 1786 will of John BRITT named as his executors Benjamin BRITT and William CRUMPLER (who refused). It is not clear from the records how Britain BRITT became the acting executor [the Order Books are missing]. A transcription of the will (WB4:468-69) is posted at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/southampton/wills/b630j3wl.txt Benjamin bought the entire 175-acre tract 9 Feb 1791 from Britain BRITT, acting executor of John's will. He already sold this 46-acre tract to Wilton Fort Lewis JENKINS 6 Jan 1803.
