All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Nathaniel FITZ of New York, NY to William HART, deed of bargain & sale, Lot 17, Jerusalem, 17 Jun 1806 (17 Aug 1807) [margin notes] Fitz To Hart This Indenture made this Seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Six between Nathaniel Fitz of the City and state of Newyork of the one part and William Hart of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia of the other part Witnesseth that the said Nathaniel Fitz for and in consideration of the Sum of five hundred and fifty Dollars to him the said Nathaniel Fitz in hand well and truly paid the receit whereof is hereby Acknowledged: he the said Nathaniel Fitz hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and Sell unto the Said William Hart his heirs and assigns a certain lot or parcel of land lying and being in in the town of Jerusalem in the Said county of Southampton and bounded as follows (Viz.) Beginning at the corner of the Court house Square north 26° 112 feet 9 Inches to the corner of No. 18, thence along the line of Number 18 No. 67 E 191 feet 5 inches to the corner thence So. 29 E 112 feet 9 Inches to the cor -ner of Number 16 thence along the line of Number 16 - 204 feet Six inches to the beginning: Together with all profits Commodities privileges advts. hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever to the said lot or parcel of land above mentioned belonging or in any wise appurtaining and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues & profits of the Said premises and of every part and parcel thereof; and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Nathaniel Fitz of in and to lot or parcel of land and premises and every part thereof. Microfilm Reel 5 Additional information: Nathaniel FITZ bought Lot 17 from Benjamin W. JOHNSTON & wife Mary, 2 Aug 1804 (20 Aug 1804). HART conveyed Lot 17, an adjoining two acres, & another tract of 70ĵ acres, devised to him by the will of his late father William HART, to trustee Collin KITCHEN, 21 Oct 1815, to secure James ROCHELLE. KITCHEN & released the 70ĵ-acre tract to HART, 30 Apr 1816 (20 May 1816), then Lewis P. HART & wife Mary B. sold it to James TREZVANT, 4 May 1816 (20 May 1816). KITCHEN & James ROCHELLE released the 2½a. Jerusalem tracts to HART, 28 Aug 1816 (16 Sep 1816). (Southampton Co. DB15:17-19,63-66,132-33) On the other hand, Charles L. WINGFIELD, Marshall of the Superior Court of Chancery for the Williamsburg district, on 16 May 1831 (20 Jun 1831), sold "the house and lot... in the town of Jerusalem... the Same being the lot of which William Hart decd. Seized and possessed" to Joseph C. MURDAUGH, in pursuance of a decree "in Cause therein depending between James Rochelle in his own right and as Executor of Henry M. Gray decd. Plaintiff against" the administrators of Thomas RIDLEY decd.. Samuel Hardy DOYLE and Silas SUMMERELL, Committee of the estates of William HART & Lewis P. HART. MURDAUGH sold it to Richard S. NICHOLSON, 18 Aug 1831 (19 Sep 1831). (Southampton Co. DB22:17,77) NICHOLSON conveyed the lot & two other tracts (164 & 174a.) to Augustus C. BUTTS, of Greensville Co., in a deed of trust, to secure John Y. MASON, Richard STEWART & John D. HART. BUTTS sold the lot & 2 tracts at auction to MASON, STEWART & HART, 16 Dec 1833 (17 Dec 1833).
