Lowe Janry. 1820 A M _ This Indenture made this fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eight between Herod Summerell and Sarah his wife of the one part and Philip Raiford of the other part all of Southampton County and State of Virginia _ Witnesseth that the Said Herod Summerell and Sarah his wife for and in Consideration the Sum of One hundred Pounds to them in hand paid by the Said Philip Raiford at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained Sold Conveyed Aliened and Confirmed and by these presets doth grant bargain Sell Convey Alien and Confirm unto the Said Philip Raiford all That tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the Aforesaid County of Southampton Containing by estimation Fifty Acres be the Same more or Less and bounded as follows (to wit) Beginning at a White oak on the Side of round hill Swamp then along a line of marked trees to a gum a Corner tree Standing in John Urquharts line (the lands whereon Charles Stephens now Lives) thence along Said Urquharts line to a Sowerwood making an elbow, thence along the Said line to round hill swamp aforesaid thence up the Various Courses of the run of the Said Swamp to the first beginning _ To have and to hold the Said tract or parcel of Land unto him the said Philip Raiford his heirs ex'ors adm'rs and assigns forever and the Said Herod Summerell and Sarah his wife for themselves their heirs Ex'ors adm'rs and assigns the title to the Said tract or parcel of Land doth hereby forever warrant and defend against the Lawful Claim or claims of them the Sd_ Herod Summerell and Sarah his wife their heirs Ex'ors & adm'rs and assigns and of all and every other person or persons whatsoever In witness whereof the Said Herod Summerell and Sarah his wife hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their Seals the day and year first above mentioned ___ Signed Sealed & delivered } Herod Summerell ¤Seal¤ in presence of } her Sarah X Summerell ¤Seal¤ mark At a Court held for the County of Southampton on the 17th. day of October 1808_ This Indenture was acknowledged by Herod Summerell & Sarah his wife parties hereto She being first privately examined as the law directs & is ordered to be recorded Saml.
