All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Commissioners to Solomon HOLMES, deed of bargain & sale, 78 acres, 18 Jul 1808 (18 Jul 1808) [margin note] Commissioners To Holmes Ex.d & deld. to J.[?] Holmes July 17th 1875[?] Ex.d This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of July in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand eight hundred and eight, and in the thirty third year of the Commonwealth of Virginia _ Between Simon Boykin & Arthur Hollaman Commissioners &C. of the parish of Nottoway & County of Southampton of the one part and Solomon Holmes of the parish aforesaid of the other part__ Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the Sum of one hundred and Sixty Seven dollars the receipt whereof the sd. Simon Boykin & Arthur Hollaman doth hereby acknowledge they the Said Simon Boykin and Arthur Hollaman. have granted, bargained, Sold aliened, enfeoffed and Confirm'd & by these presents, do, grant, bargain Sell alien enfeoff & Confirm unto the Said Solomon Holmes his heirs & assigns for all that tract of land Called the three Cornered handkerchief situate lying and being in the County of Southampton aforesaid Containing by esti= =mation Seventy eight Acres more or less and bounded by the lines of Willis Bowers Matthew Britt and Moses Johnson the Same being part of a tract of Land belonging to the Estate of Joseph Britt, with all houses, Orchçhards Commodities, hereditaments, & appurtenances, whatsoever to the Same belonging or in any ways, appurtaining and the reversion & reversions, remainder and remainders, rents issues and profits thereof and also all the Estate right, title, Interest property, Claim & demand whatsoever of them the Said Simon Boykin & Arthur Holleman and theirs heirs, of, in, or [to] the Said Tract of Land and premises & every part thereof _ To have and to hold the Said Bargained Land and Premises & all & Singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the Said Solomon Holmes his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the Said Solomon Holmes his heirs and assigns forever_ And the Said Simon Boykin & Arthur Holleman for themselves & their heirs the Said tract or parcel of Land & premises and every part thereof against them & their heirs to the Said Solomon Holmes, his heirs and assigns, Shall and will warrant & forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof the Said Simon Boykin & Arthur Hollaman have hereunto Set their hands & Seals the day & year above written___ Signed & delivered { in presence of { James Delanna { S. Boykin the other party hereto and ordered to be recorded ~ S. Kello OB1807-08:60-61 At a Court of Quarter Session Cont'd & held for the County of Southampton the 18th. of Nov. 1807_ [...] Britts Exor vs Goodwyn &c debt Robt. Mabry Spl bd = [...] = Lawrence & others vs Britt Chy. Heard on the bill & answer on Consideration whereof it is decreed & ordered that Solo. Holmes Arthur Holleman & Jno. Harris or any 2 of them lay off & assign to Ann Britt 1/3 of a tract of land Contg. two hundred acres being the land whereof her late husband Benj: Britt died Seizd & possesd for her natural life & that they proceed to sell said tract of land including the reversion after the expiration of the life estate assig'd to the widow, on a Credit of 9 months taking bond & security for the payt. of the purchase of money & divide the proceeds equally between the compts. & report = Copeland & Co. vs Craisey debt payt. by CBail [page break] [p.] 61 Cook & wife vs Atkinson &others Chy.
