George &c  To all &c  Know ye  That for diverse good Causes 
and Considerac'ons but more especially for and in Considerac'on of the Sum' of Fifteen 
Shillings of good and lawful mony for our use paid to our Receiver General of 
our Revenues in this our Colony and Dominion of Virginia  We have 
given granted and Confirmed and by these presents for us our Heirs and Successors 
Do give grant and Confirm unto Thomas Sherrer of Isle of Wight County one Certain 
Tract or Parcell of Land containing One hundred and Thirty Acres lying - 
and being on the South Side of the main Blackwater Swamp in the County aforesd. 
and bounded as followeth (to wit)  Begining at an Ash on the East Side of 
Tuckers Swamp a Corner Tree of William Boykin's Land  Thence by Boykin's Line 
East by North Sixty Nine pole to a black Oak  Then North Forty degrees West Sixty 
pole to a Pine  Then North North West Ninety two pole to a Spanish Oak  Then 
West One hundred and Twenty Four Pole to a Pine  Thence South Five degrees 
West Seventy Seven Pole to a White Oak   Then South Nineteen Degrees East Thirty 
Eight Pole to a Pine a Corner of Joseph Turners Land  Then by Turners 
Lines South Seventy degrees East One hundred and Twenty Pole to Four 
Trees chopt Inwards and North Seventy Three degrees East Six pole to an 
Ash on the West Side of Tuckers Swamp aforesaid and up the various 
Courses of the Run of the Said Swamp to the Begining  With all &c

While this patent is given as being in Isle of Wight Co., it lies in 
   that portion from which Southampton Co. was formed in 1749. 

Additional information: 

Members' pages on Ancestry.com claim that patentee Thomas SHERROD - son of 
   John SHERRER Sr. & Susannah PARNELL - left will, proved 10 Jul 1731, 
   but that will does not appear in Chapman.  It is suggested that Thomas 
   was the grandson of George SHEARER. 

Later transactions in the Southampton Co. records give the grantee's surname 
   as Sherred or Sherrod (DB2:105; DB3:213).  A 1752 account mentions an 
   Ann Sheorod, likely a daughter of Arthur WHITEHEAD (WB1:91). 

This 135-acre tract and additional 225 acres of new land patented 25 Jun 1747 
   by Edward ALMAND (PB28:114-15), the SHERRER/SHERROD tract having "become 
   vested in the said Edward Alman"; file at:

This tract was sold 25 May 1756 by Edward ALMAN & wife Susanna to Arthur ALLEN 
   (Southampton Co. DB2:105); file at:

The other portion, 224 acres [sic], "being part of a tract or parcel of land 
   which the said Edward Almond bought of Arthur Sherred," Edward ALMOND sold 
   to Edward BRITT, 9 May 1763 (proved 12 May 1763). (DB3:212-13a); file at:

The 1706 will of John SHERRER named as legatees daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, 
   widow of John Jr.; son Thomas; and a Robert SHERRER, bequeathed 100 acres 
   adj. John BRITT; the executor named was his son Alexander.

An "Arthur Sherard" m. 27 Nov 1791 Sarah Boykin.  The bond gives SHERARD, but 
   the Ministers' Returns gives SHERWOOD.  (M.Reg. 76, 646)
