All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records William BAILEY to John URQUHART, deed of bargain & sale, 335 acres, 7 Apr 1814 (May 1814) [margin note] Bailey to Urquhart This Indenture made and entered into this 7th day of April in the year of our lord one thousand, eight hundred and fourteen between William Bailey of the county of Southampton of the one part and John Urquhart of the aforesaid County of the other part, Whereas Timothy Atkins late of the county of So.ampton did by his certain deed in trust bearing date the 8th day of May 1811 Convey unto the said William Bailey a certain tract or Parcel of land situate lying and being in the said County of Southampton Containing by estimation three hundred and thirty five acres for the speceal purpose of securing the payment of a certain debt in the said deed of trust Particularly mentioned to John Urquhart in Pursuance and by virtue of said deed in trust the said William Bailey after having advertised the time and [page break] [p.] 25 place of sale of the same in the newspaper call the Norfolk herald did on the 7th Instant at Public auction Proceed to sell to the highest bidder the said tract of land subject to the dower right of Elizabeth Atkins widow of the late Timothy Atkins when John Urquhart became the Purchaser Therefore this Indenture Witnesseth that for and [in] consideration of the sum of fifteen hundred dollars to him the said William Bailey in hand paid or secured to be paid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of which he the said Wm. Bailey doth hereby acknowledge he the said William Bailey hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Urquhart his heirs and assigns forever all the land conveyed to him the said William Bailey in trust by the said Timothy Atkins containing three hun =dred and thirty five acres by estimation _ To have and to hold the said tract or Parcel of land together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto appurtaining or in any wise happen =ing growing or arising unto him the said John Urquhart his heirs and assigns and the said William Bailey doth for him =self covenant and agree with the said John Urquhart that he will forever warrant and defend the right and title of said land so far as the virtue of said deed of trust well [sic; will] extend against all and every Person whatsoever In Witness whereof the said William Bailey hath hereunto sit [sic] his hand and affixd his seal the day and year within Written Sealed and acknowledged} W.
