All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records John LAWRENCE, executor of Thomas JOHNSON, to Henry LENOW, deed of bargain & sale, 31 acres, 21 Mar 1814 (Nov 1814) [p.] 118 [...] [margin note] Lawrence to Lenow This Indenture made this 21st day of March In _ the year of our lord Christ one thousand eight hundred & fourteen between John Lawrence of Isle of Wight County executor of Thomas Johnson decd. of the one Part and Henry Leno of the County of Southampton and Parish of Nottoway of the other Part Witnesseth that the said John Lawrence Executor of Thomas Johnson deceased for and in Consideration of the sum of sixty dollars good and lawfull money of Virginia to him in hand Paid by the said Henry Lenow the receipt whereof the said John Lawrence Executor of Thomas Johnson deceased doth acknowledge himself fully and amply satisfied and Paid hath granted bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these Presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Henry Leno one certain tract or Parcel of land and Premises situated lying and being in the County of Southampton containing by a late survey thirty one acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows (to wit) [beginning] at a lightwood post standing on the round hill road a corner of Richard Blackshins runing thence S 5 degrees East 94 Pole to a large white oak a Corner of John Leuter and Joseph Harris thence N 87 degrees W 82 Pole to a red oak a corner of Jesse Councils line, standing at the mill Path thence along the mill Path N 4 degrees East 40 Pole thence N 47 degrees East 8 Pole thence N 10 degrees West 20 Pole to a green pine a corner of Benjamin Brister thence due East 20 pole to a green Pine a corner of Benjamin Brister oposite Bristers house thence N 15 degrees East 15[?] pole to a lightwood post standing on the side of the road aforesaid a corner of the said Brister and from thence along the said road N 78 E 50 Pole to the first station together with all houses out house edifices buildings Yards gardens orchards ways waters and water courses whatsoever belonging or in any wise appurtaining to the said tract or Parcel of land and Premises. to have and to hold the same unto the [said] Henry Lenow to him and to his heirs forever and the said John Lawrence Executor of Thomas Johnson decd. for himself his heirs executors and admrs. doth by these Presents Covenant and grant to and with the said Henry Leno his heirs or assigns [page break] [p.] 119 he will warrant and defend all his right and title as executor against all the rights of the heirs of Thomas Johnson deceased claiming or demanding the same or any Part or Parcel thereof _ In Witness whereof the said John Laurence Executor of Thomas Johnson deceased hath hereto set his hand and seal this day and year written [sic; above] written Signed Sealed and declared } In Presence of ________ } John Laurence ¤Seal¤ James Jones B. WINBOURNE, 26 Sep 1803 (DB11:154-55). Henry LENOW & wife "Fanny" sold a 80-acre tract, which included the 31-acre tract conveyed above, to John STEPHENSON, 19 Oct 1816 (DB15:156-57). LENOW was born in Berlin (then in Prussia, now Germany). He named the hamlet of Berlin in Southampton Co. He is buried in a LENOW family cemetery on Ivor Rd., about a mile south of Berlin.
