Sheriff to Matthew MOUNTFORD Deed of Bargain & Sale [margin note] Sheriff S.o'ton to MOUNTFORT This Indenture made this 25.th day of August in the year of our lord Crist one thousand eight hundred and fifteen between Christopher RIVES deputy of Jacob DARDEN Sheriff of the County of Southampton on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part and Matthew MOUNTFORT of the County of Southampton & state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that whereas the said Christopher RIVES dep.y of Jacob DARDEN Sheriff of the County of Southampton aforesaid by virtue of an act of the general assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia passed on the 9.th day of February 1814 entiled ['entitled'] an act to amend an act and explain the act entitled an act Concerning taxes on lands hath exposed to sale so much of a tract of land returned delinquent in the County of Southampton for the non payment of taxes thereon for the years 1798 as well be sufficent [page break] [p.] 272 to discharge the arrears of taxes for the aforesaid years with 1 ea Per Cent Per year damage thereon and the said Matthew MOUNTFORD became the purchaser of the whole tract say eighty acres for the sum of One dollar & ninety seven Cents being the amount of the taxes and damages due thereon to him the said Christopher RIVES deputy Sheriff as aforesaid in hand paid the receipt whereof the said Christopher RIVES deputy Sheriff as aforesaid in hand paid the receipt whereof the said Christopher RIVES Sheriff as aforesaid doth hereby acknowledge hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and unto the said Matthew MOUNTFORD his heirs and assigns a certain Piece or Parcel of land Containing eighty (the whole tract) acres being a tract or parcel of land Containing eighty acres returned delinquent for the non payment of taxes thereon in the name of Josiah VICK for the year aforesaid together with all and singular the appurtenances thereto belonging reversion and reversions remainder & remainders rents issues and Profits thereof and every part and parcel thereof- To have and to hold the said land with the tenements hereditaments and all and singular other the Premises herein before mentioned or entended to be bargained and sold and every Part and Parcel thereof with every of their rights members and appurtenances unto the said Matthew MOUNTFORD his heirs and assigns forever- In Witness whereof the said Christopher RIVES dep.y of Jacob DARDEN Sheriff of the County of Southampton on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written Christopher RIVES *Seal* dep.y of Jacob DARDEN Sheriff Signed Sealed and delivered In presence of~ [blank] Southampton County In the Clerk's office August 25.th 1815 This Indenture was acknowledged by Christopher RIVES dep.y of Jacob DARDEN Sheriff party hereto In persuance of an act of assembly in such case made and provided and admitted to record And at a Court held for the said County of Southampton the 18.th day of September 1815, This Indenture was entered upon the proceedings of the day J ROCHELLE Cl
