All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records William STRINGFIELD & wife Elizabeth to Benjamin JONES, deed of bargain & sale, 55 acres, 20 Feb 1816 (20 May 1816) [p.] 60 [margin note] Stringfield & Wife to Jones This Indenture made this 20th day of February in the year of our lord Christ one thousand eight hundred and sixteen between William Stringfield and Elizabeth Stringfield his wife both of the County of Southampton and parish of Nottoway of the one part and Benjamin Jones of the same County and parish of the other part_ Witnesseth that the said William Stringfield and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds good and lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Benjamin Jones the receit whereof the said William Stringfield and Elizabeth his wife doth acknowledge themselves fully and amply satisfied and paid hath granted bargained sold aliened released and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Benjamin Jones to him and his heirs forever one certain tract or parcel of land and premises known by the place called Tynes place situate lying & being in the County and parish aforesaid and on the north side of Seacocke swamp Containing by estimation fifty five acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit begining at a pine at the Kings spring adjoining the lands of Arrington Britt and William Crumpler runing a north West course a line of marked trees to a corner pine adjoining the aforesaid Britts and Crumplers land from thence a south West course a line of marked trees to the spring branch and then down the said branch to the run of Black water thence up the said run of black water to the first station Together with all houses out houses edifices buildings yards gardens orchards ways waters and watercourses whatsoever belonging or in any wise appurtaining to the said tract or parcel of land To have and to hold the same unto the said Benjamin Jones to him and his heirs forever and the said William Stringfield and Elizabeth his wife for themselves their heirs executors and adm'rs. doth by these presents Covenant and grant to and with the said Benjamin Jones his heirs and assigns that they will by these presents warrant and forever defend all the right title claim or demand of any person or persons claiming or demanding the same or any part or parcel thereof In Witness whereof the said William Stringfield and Elizabeth his wife hath hereto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year within written Signed, Sealed and declared } his In presence of } William x Stringfield ĪsealĪ mark her Elizabeth x Stringfield ĪsealĪ mark Southampton County to wit We Simon Boykin and Saml. Boykin magis -trates of the said County County do hereby Certify that William Stringfield a party to the we then Conveyance has duly acknowledged the same before us on the 20th day of February in the year 1816 and desired us to Certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Southampton in order that the said Conveyance may be recorded As Witness our hands and seals _ Teste S. Boykin Justices of the peace in the said County aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Elizabeth Stringfield the wife of William Stringfield parties to a certain deed for the Conveyance of real estate to Benj. Jones bearing date on the 20th day of February in the year 1816 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Elizabeth Stringfield acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly Signed sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it Given under our hands and seals this 20th day of February in the year 1816 S.
