All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records John CRUMPLER Jr. & wife Mary to William BOWDEN, deed of bargain & sale, 5 acres, 27 Oct 1817 (16 Dec 1817) [p.] 375 [margin note] Crumpler & wf To Bowden This Indenture made this 27th day of October in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand eight hun -dred & seventeen, Between John Crumpler Junr. and Mary his wife of the parish of Nottoway in the County of Southampton of the one part, and William Bowden of the Same Parish and County of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said John Crumpler & Mary his Wife for and in Consideration of the sum of twelve pounds, Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the Said William Bowden, the receipt whereof he doth here -by acknowledge, and thereof acquit and discharge the said John Crumpler & Mary his Wife, hath granted, bargained & sold, aliened, enfeoffed & confirmed unto the said William Bowden & to his heirs and assigns forever, all my tract or parcel of Land Situate, lying and being in the County aforesaid on the West side of Black Water, Containing by estimation five Acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth, begin -ning at a Pine a corner tree of Bearzant Britts & Joseph Britts and a straight line of marked trees to a red oak corner tree of Bearzant Britts & John Crumplers line, thence a line of markd. trees to a Pine a corner tree of Bearzant Britt, West Tynes & John Crumplers line, thence a line of marked trees to a black Jack in Timothy Tynes's field, thence a line of marked trees to the beginning; With all houses, out houses, Edifices, buildings, yards, Gardens, Orchards, Ways, Waters & Water Courses, profits, Commodities, Hereditaments, & appurtenances to the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining the Same, and the estate, right, title, interest, claim or demand whatsoever of them the said John Crumpler & Mary his Wife of, in or to the Same or any part thereof, and all Writings touching or in any Wise concerning the Same; To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land and Premises with the appurtenaces unto the said William Bowden his heirs & assigns forever, and the Said John Crumpler and Mary his Wife for them- -Selves, their heirs, Executors and administrators doth covenant, promise and grant, to and with the said William Bowden his heirs & assigns forever, And we the Said John Crumpler and Mary his Wife for themselves, their heirs or assigns, the said tract or parcel of land and Premises, with the appurtenances unto the Said William Bowden his heirs or assigns, against all and every other person or persons what -Soever lawfully claiming or to claim the Same Shall and will warrant and forever defend, all the rights, titles, claims or demands by these Presents, In Witness whereof We do hereto set our hands and Seals this day and year above Written Signed, Sealed and delivered } in Presence of, Silas Summerell, } John Crumpler Jun. Boykin Justices of the peace in the said County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Mary Crumpler the Wife of John Crump- -ler Junr. parties to a certain deed for the conveyance of real estate to William Bowden bearing date on the 27th. day of October 1817. and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and being examined by us Privily and apart from her husband and having the Deed aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Mary Crumpler acknowledged the Same to be her act & Deed and declared that she had Willingly Signed, Sealed & delivered the Same and that she wished not to retract it _ Given under our hands &Seals this 27th. day of October 1817_ Silas Summerell ĪSealĪ Saml. This Indenture was proved by the oaths of Silas Summerell, Patrick Doles & Willis Bowers the Witnesses hereto, as also the Certificate of Silas Summerell & Samuel G. Boykin Certifying the acknow- -ledgment of Mary Crumpler, Wife of Said Jno. Crumpler and admitted to record_ And at a Court held for the Said County of Southampton the 19th. day of January 1818.
