All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Deeds Joseph BRITT to son Samuel BRITT, deed of gift, Negro boy Edmund, 26 Nov 1818 (17 May 1819) [margin note] Britt To Britt Know all men by these Presents that I Joseph Britt of the County of Southampton and state of Virginia for and in Consideration of the natural love and affection, which I bear to my son Samuel Britt of the County aforesaid as well as for the further Consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Samuel Britt at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have [page break] [p.] 264 given and granted, and by these presents do give, and grant unto the sd. Samuel Britt his ex'ors, adm'rs or assigns &c one negro boy named Edmund to have and to hold the said Negro boy Edmund unto him the said Saml. Britt his executors, adm'rs and assigns forever, and the said Joseph Britt for himself his ex'rs & adm'rs the said negro Edmund unto the said Saml. Britt his ex'ors, adm'rs and assigns, against the claim of him the said Joseph Britt his ex'rs and adm'rs and against the claim of all and every persons or persons whomsoever, Shall and will warrant & defend them by these presents- In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of November 1818. Boykin Magistrates of the said County do hereby certify that Joseph Britt party to the within Conveyance hath . duly acknowledged the same before us on the 26th day of November in the year 1818 and desired us to Certify the said acknowledgment to the clerks of the County Court of So.ampton in order that the said Conveyance may be recorded. Boykin ĪsealĪ So.ampton County In the clerks office the day of 1819 This Deed of Gift together with the certificate thereon endorsed Certifying the acknowledgment of Jos. Britt and admitted to record. And at a court held for the aforesaid County on the 17th day of May 1819 This Deed of Gift and Certificate as aforesaid were entered upon the proceedings of the day.
