   deed of bargain & sale, 10½ acres, 12 Feb 1823 (27 Jan 1824)

  This Indenture made this 12.th day of February in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand 
eight hundred and twenty three between Thomas E. Brock and Polly his wife and Baldy Drake 
all of the County of Southampton [&] state of Virginia and Parish of Nottoway of the one part & 
James Blythe of the Same County state and parish of the other part  Witnesseth that the Said 
Thomas E. Brock  Polly his wife and Baldy Drake for and in consideration of the Sum of 
twenty one dollars Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said James Bly= 
the  the receipt whereof the said  Thomas E. Brock  Polly his wife and Baldy Drake doth 
hereby acknowledge themselves fully and amply satisfied and paid  hath granted bargained 
Sold aliened enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain & ["Confirm" struck] Sell 
unto the said James Blythe his heirs and assigns forever one Certain tract or parcel of 
Land and premises situated lying and being in the County state and parish aforesaid 
and adjoning the said James Blythes Land whereon he now lives Containing by a late Survey 
ten acres and a half and bounded as follows  toWit  Beginning at a Pine in Benjamin 
Westra.s line and a new Corner of James. Blythe  thence along a line of new marked trees 
N.23 E.68 pole to just. beyond a fore and aft Sacefras [sic; sassafras] in Said line  thence N.12½E. ½ pole 
to a lightwood post a new Corner of James. Blythe Standing on the Side of the 
road leading from black water bridge to Jerusalem  thence up Said road n.76W. 32 pole to 
the intersection of the Said Road and a small branch  thence down the Said branch the various 
Courses thereof to a corner of John Drakes line and Benjamin Westra.s line N.60E. 15 pole 
to the 1st station  together with all houses.  out. houses Edifices buildings yards. Gardens orchards 
ways. water and water Courses whatsoever belonging or. in any wise appertaining to the said land 
and premises.  To have and to hold the Same unto the Said James Blythe to him and to his heirs 
forever. and the Said Thomas E. Brock Polly his wife and Baldy Drake doth for themselves their 
heirs Exors. and adm'rs Covenant and grant to and with the Said James Blythe his heirs & 
assigns that they will by these presents warrant and defend all right title Claim or demand 
of any person or. persons Claiming or. demanding the Same or any part or parcel thereof 
In Witness whereof the Said Thomas E. Brock Polly his wife and Baldy Drake hath hereto 
set their hands and affixed their Seals this day and date within written

  In the Clerks office the 27 January 1824  This Indenture was proved by the oaths of Matthew Mountford 
and by David Beal  two. of the witnesses hereto and Continued  And. on the 16th February 1824  This Indenture was 
fully proved by the oaths of James Jones the other witness hereto and admitted to record  and at a Court held for 
the aforesaid County. of Southampton on the 16. March 1824  This Indenture as aforesaid were entd. upon the
