All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records George WILSON & wife Mary "Polly" DREW WILSON, Charles NEWELL & wife Nancy, and Samuel WHITFIELD, for his daughter Mary Frances WHITFIELD, to the heirs of Robert HORNE, deed of bargain & sale, 500 acres, 5 Jan 1827 (19 Mar 1827) [in modern pen p.] 167 This Indenture made this 5th day of January in the year 1827 Between Geo Wilson and Polly his wife Charles Newell and Nancy his wife and Samuel Whitfield as the next friend of his infant daughter Mary Frances Whitfield of the County of Isle of wight of the one part and Nancy Britt wife of Joseph Britt Cherry Horne Goodman Horne Harman Horne and Polly Horne children and heirs of Robert Horn decd. of the County of Southampton of the other part Whereas by a decree entd. in of the County Court of Southampton the day of in the year in a Cause therein lately depending between Rebecca Horn Joseph Britt and the said Nancy his wife. & the Said Cherry Goodman, Harman and Polly Plaintiffs and the said George Wilson. and Polly his wife Charles Newell and Nancy his wife and Mary Francis Whitfield defendants it was decreed and ordered that the Said George Wilson and Polly his wife Charles Newell and Nancy his wife and Mary Francis Whitfield an infant by Samuel Whitfield her father and next friend Should convey a certain tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances situate in the said County of Southampton and in the proceedings of the Said Cause refered to in fee Simple to the Said Nancy Britt Cherry Horne Goodman Horne Harman Horne and Polly Horne Subject however to the dower right of the Said Rebecca widow and relict of Robert Horne. This Indenture therefore witnesseth, that the Said George Wilson and. Polly his Wife Charles Newell. and Nancy his wife and Samuel Whitfield as the father and next friend of Mary Francis Whitfield as. well for and in consideration of the premises aforesaid as of the Sum of one dollar to them in hand paid have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Nancy Britt. Cherry Horne Goodman Horne Harman Horn and Polly Horn subject to the dower right of the Said Rebecca as aforesaid the tract or parcel of land. as aforesaid Containing by Estimation five hundred acres Situate in the County of Southampton and. being the Tract of Land purchased by Robert Horne in his life time of a certain William Boykin their heirs and assigns To .have and to hold the said Tract of parcel of Land together with the appurtenances thereto belonging or appurtaining. to the said Nancy Britt, Cherry Horn, Goodman Horn Harman Horne and. Polly Horne Subject as aforesaid to the dower right of the Said Rebecca Horn their heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the Said Nancy Britt Cherry Horne Goodman Horne Harman Horne and Polly Horne their heirs & assigns forever and the said George Wilson and. Polly his wife and Charles Newell & Nancy his wife the the Said Tract of Land and its appurtenances against themselves and their heirs and all other persons Claiming or to Claim by through or under them unto the Sd. Wilson and Polly his wife Charles Newell and Nancy his wife and. Samuel Whitfield parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 5" day of January in the Year 1827 and hereto annexed personally appeared before. us in our County aforesaid and acknd. the same to be their act and deed .and desired us. to certify the Said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Southampton in order that the Said deed may be recorded. Jordan Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Polly Wilson the wife of George Wilson and Nancy Newell the wife of Charles Newell parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 5" day of January in the Year 1827 & hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our. County aforesaid and being Examd. by us privily and apart from their husbands and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to them they the said Polly Wilson and Nancy Newell acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and declared that they had willingly signed sealed and delivered the Same and that they wished not to retract it. This Indenture was this day returned and together with a certificate thereon endorsed Certifying the ackmt. privy examination of Polly Wilson and Nancy Newell wifes of George Wilson and Charles Newell parties hereto and admitted to record And at a Court held for the aforesaid County of Southampton on the 19" March 1827 This Indenture & certificates as aforesaid were entered upon the proceedings of the day Teste James Rochelle CC Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 20 (1826-28), pp. 167-68 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 9 Mary (DREW; Mrs. George) WILSON and Elizabeth (DREW; Mrs. Samuel) WHITFIELD were granddaughters of William BOYKIN and inherited his plantation. Residing in Smithfield, they sold the plantation in 1817.
