All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Southampton County Virginia USGenWeb Archives Land Records Arrington BRITT to William BOWDEN, deed of bargain & sale, 12 acres, Oct 1826 (21 May 1827) [margin note] Britt to Bowden This Indenture made this day of October in the year of our Lord 1826 between Arrington Britt of the one part and Bowden of the other part both of of the County of Southampton County & State of Virginia whereas a certain Beisant, was justly indebted unto the above named William in the sum of thirty three dollars & thirty cents and to secure the payment of the same gave to him a deed in Trust on Twelve acres of his land and the above named Arrington Britt was the Trustee in the said deed and the above named Beisant Britt failed to pay to the said William Bowden the sum of money the said deed Called for in his life time in Consequence of which failure the said William Bowden has ordered the above named Arrington Britt as Trustee to make sale of the twelve Acres land which said deed called for which he has done after giving due notice of the same for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty dollars of Lawful money of this Commonwealth and the said William Bowden became the purchaser and hath paid the money the receipt whereof is hereby [acknowledged] the said Arrington Britt as Trustee hath granted bargained and sold & by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William Bowden his heirs & assigns the above named Tract of 12 Acres of land lying and being in the County of Southampton & parish of Nottoway and bounded as followeth by the land of West Tynes by the lands of William Bowden and the lands of Beisant Britt to have & to hold the said Tract of Twelve Acres of land together with all and singular the houses out houses edifices buildings yards Gardens ways waters & water Courses profits commodities hereditaments and appurtenances unto the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining to the same or any part or parcel thereof to have & to hold the said 12 Acres of land more or less together with all and Singular the premises herein before mentioned with every part & parcel thereof unto the said William Bowden his heirs and Assigns forever And the said Arrington Britt for himself his heirs [&c] the said land with all and Singular the premises unto the said William Bowden his heirs and Assigns free from the claim or Claims of him the said Arrington Britt his heirs and Assigns and from all & every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend (as Trustee) by these presents In Witness whereof the said Arrington Britt hath hereunto set his hand And affixed his seal the day & year first above written Signed sealed & delivered } in the presence of } Arrington Britt ĪsealĪ Southampton County In the clerks Office the 3rd May 1827 This Indenture was acknowledged by Arrington Britt & admitted to Record And at a Court held for the said county 21st of May 1827 the said Indenture was entered upon the proceedings of the day Teste James Rochelle CC Southampton Co., VA, Deed Book 20 (1826-28), p. 250 The Library of Virginia (LVA), Richmond, VA, Southampton Microfilm Reel 9 Beasant BRITT executed a deed of trust on the 12 acres 12 May 1824 to his brother Arrington BRITT, as trustee for William BOWDEN.
