        deed of bargain & sale, 150 acres, 13 Mar 1830 (19 Apr 1830)

This Indenture made this 13" day of March in the Year of our Lord one thousand 
Eight hundred and thirty between  John Urquhart and Nancy his wife of the 
County of Southampton and State of Virginia of the one part and Thomas Herring 
of the same county on the other part-  Witnesseth that the Said John Urquhart 
and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and nine 
dollars and seventy three cents to him in hand paid paid by the said Thomas 
Herring the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by him the Said John 
Urquhart  hath granted bargained and sold. aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and 
doth by these presents grant bargain Sell. alien enfeoff and confirm unto the 
Said Thomas Herring his heirs and assigns forever. one certain tract or parcel 
of land. Containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres more or less. 
being the tract of land bought by the Said John Urquhart of Besant Crumpler. 
and bounded. as follows to wit beginning at Black Water adjoining the lands of 
Jordan Spivy. thence along the said Spivy's line to a pine a corner tree in 
the said Spivy's line and Solomon Crumpler. thence along the Said Crumpler's 
line to a cypress in the run of Seacock. Swamp. thence down the run of Said 
Seacock. Swamp to Black Water. to Black Water thence up to black. Water to the 
beginning  To have and to hold the aforesaid premises and also the reversion 
and reversions remainder and remainders right title interest claim and demand 
of every kind whatsoever of him the said John Urquhart and Nancy his

wife for themselves and their heirs and against all and every other person or 
persons claiming under them of in and to the said premises and the 
appurtenances thereto belonging unto him the said Thomas Herring his heirs and 
assigns forever. do warrant and defend  In Witness Whereof we have hereunto 
set our hands and affixed our seals this day and date first above written

                                               We Richard A. Urquhart and 
Benjamin Griffin  Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid and state of 
Virginia do hereby Certify that Nancy Urquhart the wife of John Urquhart 
parties to the annexed deed bearing date the 13" day of March 1830. for the 
Conveyance of real [estate] to Thomas Herring personally appeared before us in 
our County aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her said 
husband. and having the deed fully explained to her. She the said Nancy 
Urquhart declared that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same 
and that She wished not to retract it.  Given under our hands and seals this

Southampton County  In the Clerk's Office the 15" day of March 1830. 
This Indenture was acknowledged by John Urquhart. and together with the 
certificate thereon endorsed of the privy examination and Relinquishment of 
Dower of Nancy Urquhart wife of the Said John Urquhart parties thereto 
admitted to record  And at a Court held for the County aforesaid the 19" day 
of April 1830  The said Indenture and certificate were entered upon the 
proceedings of the day
