JOYNER, deed of bargain & sale, 37½ & 10 acres, 5 Mar 1831 [margin notes] Blythe & wife To Joyner Deliv.d to Tho.s W. Joyner Decr.r 28/1836 This Indenture made on the 5.th day of March in the year one thousand Eight hundred and thirty one Between James Blythe and Amey his wife of the County of Southampton and State of Virginia of the ["first" erased] one part and Thomas W. Joyner of the County And State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the Said James Blythe and Amey his Wife for and in consideration of the Sum of one hundred and Eighty five dollars Current money of Virginia in hand paid the receipt whereofof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do give grant bargain and Sell unto the Said Thomas W. Joyner and his heirs a Certain tract or parcel of Land in the County of Southampton aforesaid being the Same Land which the Said James Blythe purchas.d of Thomas E. Brock and Polly his wife as by their Deed of bargain and Sale and is of record in the County Court of Southampton Containing by estimation thirty Seven and a half acres be the Same more or less and bounded by the Lands of Thomas Pretlow Alfred Ricks John Drake Cherry Lowe and James Blythe's other Land. as a reference to the Deed from Thomas E. Brock & wife will more fully explain To have and to hold the Said tract or parcel of Land unto the Said Thomas W. Joyner, his heirs and assigns for ever. and the Said James Blythe and his wife Amey. their [heirs] Executors and administrators the Said tract or parcel of Land, with all and every its appurtenances unto him the Said Thomas W. Joyner. his heirs and assigns Shall and will forever warrant and defend by these presents. And the Said James Blythe and Amey his wife for and in Consideration of the above named Sum in hand paid by the Said Thomas Joyner. doth acknowledge themselves fully Satisfied and paid hath granted bargained and Sold. alienated and Confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and Sell. unto the Said Thomas W. Joyner. his heirs and assigns forever. one other tract or parcel of Land adjoining the above named tract and Containing Ten and a half acres being the Same land purchased by the Said James Blythe of Thomas E. Brock as tenant by the Courtesy as by reference to the Deed now of record. in the Clerks Office of Southampton County aforesaid will [page break] [p.] 515. more fully explain. To have and to hold the Said tract or parcel of Land as Conveyed. by the Said Thomas E. Brock. with all and every its appurte= nances. unto him. the Said Thomas W. Joyner his heirs and assigns forever. and the Said James Blythe and. Amey his wife their heirs Executors and administrators the Said tract or parcel of Land, will warrant and forever. defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the Said James Blythe and Amey his Wife hath hereunto Set their hands and Seals the day and year first before written Signed Sealed and delivered his In presence of. Amey + Drake ¤Seal¤ mark Southampton County to wit We Benjamin DeVany and Jeremiah Cobb Justices of the Peace in the County aforesaid do hereby Certify that Amey Blythe wife of James Blythe parties to the above deed for the conveyance of real estate to Thomas W. Joyner. bearing date the 5.th day of March 1831. personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being examined privily and apart from her husband and having the Deed explained to her. the Said Amey acknowledged the Same to be her act and Deed and declared that She had willingly Signed and Sealed the Same and that She wished not to retract the Same. This Indenture was proved by the oath of Matthew Mountfortt Benjamin E. Vick and Matthew Joyner the Witnesses thereto and together with the Certificate thereto annexed of the privy examination and relinquishment of Dower of Amey Blythe wife of James Blythe parties thereto admitted to record And at a Court. held for: the County aforesaid the 21.st day of March 1831.
