This Indenture made this 18.th day of May one thousand eight hundred & thirty six between Merit Robertson Drake of the County of Southampton and State of Virgi= nia of the one part and Matthew Drake of the County aforesaid of the other part Witness= eth that the said Merit Robertson Drake for and in consideration of the just and full sum of thirty dollars in hand paid by the said Matthew Drake the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said Merit Robertson Drake have given granted bargained bar= gained [sic] and sold and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell unto the said Mat= thew Drake and to his heirs for ever all the right title claim or demand which he has or ever will have in_ any part or parcel thereof, of his Mother's Land at the death of Ben= jamin Wester confirmed to the said Wester his life by Thos. E. Brock and Polly his Wife the [?; thence?] [page break] [p.] 631 to Merit Robertson Drake and his heirs or assigns fore ever [sic] the said 40 acres of Land be the same more or less that is now held by Benjamin Wester and bounded by the Lands of Jesse Blythe, James Scott John Drake & Matthew Drake is the Land or rather a part of the Land above written that the said Merit Robertson Drake hath given, granted, bargained and sold and do give grant bargain and sell unto the said Matthew Drake the same with all houses out houses edifices buildings ways waters & water Courses whatsoever, to have and to hold the said tract of [sic] par cel of Land unto the said Matthew Drake his heirs or assigns for ever, and the said Merit Robertson Drake his heirs executors and admrs. the said tract or parcels [sic] of Land with all and every of the appurtenances thereto belonging, unto the said Matthew Drake his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said Merit Robertson Drake have hereunty [sic] set his hand and seal the day and date above written Merit R. Drake ¤seal¤ Southampton County. In the Clerk's office the 18th day of May 1836. This Indenture was acknowledged by Merit R. Drake a party therety [sic] thereto and ad= mitted to record.
